thanks for that!
so does that mean the relevant 'distance' is the distance between the spider and the strain gauge? so lets say that distance is 5mm (so 0.005 metres). if for example the srm output says the torque is10Nm, then the force is 10/0.005=2000 newtons?
thanks

Chris you make some good points, but what the lance years showed is that it all comes down to two things: body weight, and the capacity of your heat + lungs. pedalling is a red herring. get fitter, and lighter. full stop.

As far as human motor skills go, i would have thought pedalling is pretty simple.your foot is attached to the pedal, and the pedals can only go round in circles. like in that article i'm trying seriously hard to find any difference between figures 1,2 and 3!? or am i missing something?

Re: DHBC Lionel Cox Memorial Sprint Derby Omnium - 4pm April
Yep weather permitting we are on! James has organised everything - what a legend! There are so many people competing I've lost track, and the numbers of spectators will be out of control. Heres hoping we don't have a stand collapse or something. After reading some posts about gearing, I was thinking...

Yeah Im gonna enter too. Even thought I got dropped badly on both days last year it was great fun! And DHBC had more riders there than any club (except maybe Canberra and Coota CC itself). I heard from people in Coota that they were stoked so many DHBC made the trip from Sydney.

Re: DHBC Lionel Cox Memorial Sprint Derby Omnium - 4pm April
Hi Andrew, I think what Tim, Lizanne and I mean to say is that as long as you are comfortable riding a fixed speed bike (i.e. dont stop pedalling after you finish sprinting!) and are comfortable enough being on the banking a bit then you will be fine. So compared to riding in things like scratch rac...

haha i understand... big lunch and a glass of wine or two and im toast. the only way for me to stay up after a big lunch is to enjoy it with like 15 wines, in which case i would still be awake but definitely in no state to ride!

Great Stuart, I'll count your reply as a confirmation :) I'm not sure when the last sprint event was - there was one at that council open day a year or so ago. But I'm not sure about before that. But I am sure that this one will be awesome fun. Justin - I took the picture from somewhere on the net.....

Thanks for the offer rhys... I'm hoping to be able to buy some at the end of the year, but I really can't afford them now, and I don't think I can afford to have $210 worth of tubular tyres sitting under my bed with no tubular wheels to put them on

Veloflex Tires
I splashed out and bought veloflex record tyres on wiggle... but being the idiot I am I ordered tubulars not clinchers...
I just thought I'd check before sending them back that noone wanted to buy record tubulars? They haven't been
taken out of the pack or anything.
Cheers

In my submission I wrote something I've always thought about which was swapping the bike lane and road lane/parking... ie putting the car lane and the parking on the outside, and the bike lane on the inside. so cars don't have to turn across the bike lane to get in and out of the park exits, and to ...

Q. should i do weights for cycling? A. yes, you will look great at the beach haha tim love it! on a more serious note i would think doing weights for any cycling event longer than the 500m/1000m TTs would be an inefficient use of training time. going to the gym would be better than sitting on the co...

haha lizanne instead of winging about doing turns they should have put more effort into trying to drop you
