Re: Three Peaks 2018

Douglas is a very hard act to follow, but here's my report on Peaks Challenge Falls Creek 2018: I signed up for PCFC back in October when my best mate from school said it was a ride to remember for a lifetime. From that day on I knew I had to do more riding than I’d ever done before. The solo traini...

2018 Falls Creek Three Peaks

Setting a goal seemed like the best way to get back on the bike in a serious way. So I've signed up for the Falls Creek Three Peaks. Looking forward to any tips on any aspect of the ride, including logistics of getting there and accomodation.

Re: Mudgee Mark Dwyer H/C & Pieter van Gent G/Scratch 3/4 Au

Mark Dwyer Handicap I was in bunch 8 (+14 minutes), with Mark Lacey. A very fast start up Ulan Road. Blustery winds, but the sun was shining. The bunch was completely shattered on the first hill. About 10 riders rode off the front, leaving the rest of us. Over the hill I could see a few other riders...

I've signed up for this. Hope to get a generous handicap and grading (James - I am going grey, and I haven't been riding much - honest!). Apparently route has changed a bit from previous years. My only advice would be that steel is real. I bought a lightweight steel frame (Colnago Master) and couldn't be happier. The ride is supple but precise. The geometry is aggressive. It's an absolute joy to ride, especially over long distances. It may be heavier that carbon frames (the Master weighs i...

Velofix is going to put on a 15 sprocket, so I'll be 40/15 (70").

Re: -Tempetation- 2010 Coastal is coming!!!!! Fixed Century*

What gearing are people thinking of running for the century? My fixie is currently set up 40/16 (with 170 cranks), which using the late Sheldon Brown's calculator gives a gain ratio of 4.9 (http://sheldonbrown.com/gears/). I note that the out of the box Surly Steamroller comes with 47/19, which give...

Re: Anyone had any experience with Planet X Titanium frames?

Anthony Challinor at Velofix at Rozelle is gearing up to sell titanium bikes he's had custom built. I haven't been on one myself (I'm a steel man - my 'nago Master never shimmies) but they've been tested heavily by Anthony and his offsider Jose and are apparently awesome.

Thanks for your work Simon and Brownie. No need to book the hotel for me, as I'll be bringing my tribe down and we'll be staying somewhere else in town (unless you want my two kids to keep everyone awake at the hotel). What time are we pushing off?

Re: Fixie social Coastal 2010 is coming!!!!***

Sounds like Sunday 12 September is shaping up as the best date for the fixie century. Great suggestion for a social fixed ride too. [Post edited to remove my clueless reference to start point - I've now seen Simon's main post].

Found something else too. On the Campy webpage, there is the following discussion of trade marks: 1977 Diminutivi Campagnolo Campagnolo is now a well-consolidated company and its relations with countries other than Italy are growing on a daily basis. Like anything that becomes familiar and well-know...

Hi Weiyun,

I didn't put in a pre-order, but if an L comes up in the club stock I'd love to get my hands on it.

Cheers,

Re: getting chain tension right on a singlespeed/fixie

Has anyone had any experience with bottom brackets with plastic cups? The Stronglight square taper BB's from Ribble now have plastic cups - If they hold up ok maybe plastic will help with those inevitable BB creaks on a singlespeed? Yep, I have plastic cups on my Shimano BB on my singlespeed. I can...

Re: TEKTRO Road Brake Caliper Set - R520 $34.99

I put the Tekro R556 on my singlespeed. It is an old Apollo frame and the reach I needed was huge. The brakes work a treat. A bit spongy, but with good pads they work just fine. Highly recommended. Certainly better than running old brakes. http://i595.photobucket.com/albums/tt32/timbo1975_photo/DSC0...

For Sale - Trek 2200 (58cm)

Hi all, For sale for $1,500 ono to a fellow member of the club, my Trek 2200 which I bought from Clarence Street in 2005 (at the time for $3,000). Here are the specs on the Trek (which I am very reluctant to let go): FRAMESET Sizes 58cm (so would suit someone around 6 foot, like me) Frame Aluminium ...

Re: For Sale: Fulcrum Racing 5 Clincher Wheels - Shimano

My wife is Italian, and her cousin works in the Campagnolo factory in Vicenza (where my wife's family is from). They are cool with 'Campy'. Indeed it is quite Italian to bastardise an Italian term to make it easier for us Skips to say it.

Jealousy

You have all made me very jealous. The fixie century has to be back in 2010 too. Here is the old steed that I'll be riding if it is. It is an old Apollo III (circa 1983?) I salvaged from my Dad's garage, and had repainted by Peter Fleming at Star Enamellers. Original handlebars and stem, cranks and ...

I've joined LACC a few times on Tuesdays and Thursdays. They have some super fast groups, but also lots of newbies and more bunch problems than we have so be careful. I ride to and from Haberfield. Safest route is back streets of Five Dock (up from Timbrell Park), across Great North Road at Henry St...
