Hello Hugo, I was the 4th placed (not angry or wingeing) rider in todays RBCC D Grade race. With only 5 riders in todays race, I was a bit disappointed only 3 did any meaningful work on the front, especially in the strong wind. Singlespeed at Heffron 02/02
In the footsteps (should that be wheeltracks?) of Al and Lindsay, I gave my 1982 Farleigh singlespeed with a 52x16 (87.8") gear a run at Heffron on Saturday. Raced in D Grade (the 'old' C Grade) and managed to finish with the bunch sprinting for third as first and second was taken by a couple o...

Well it absolutely poured down today, most of the corners had a fair bit of surface water 'ponding' so racing was not unexpectantly cancelled. A bit of a disappointment because it will be 16 February before I can get another chance to race there with the Australia day break next weekend, and then my...

Neither UCI regulations nor Cycling Australia rules prohibit the use of a fixed wheel. In talking with John Buckton (RBCC President/Handicapper) today I gain the impression that they have a 'local rule' specific to the Heffron circut discouraging fixies because of safety issues. The safety issue bei...

RBCC Heffron Park 19/01/08
This Saturday I'm planning on making a somewhat overdue debut at Heffron Park. I've seen the track but never raced on it, so I'm looking for info and advice from those who have climbed the Pimples and cornered the Squircle. I'll be riding my recently acquired/built up Farleigh fixie in singlespeed m...

I ended up being placed in Masters B grade which when I should have been in C. Hung on ok in a reasonably slow paced 5 lap scratch to finish at the back of the field, but off 250m I was out of the wheelrace after 2 laps. Goulburn is a very nice country track though, fast and safe. Pity about the wea...

Just some further info on velodrome lengths, Goulburn is 396 metres and Unanderra 270 metres. And Simon is spot on with Muswellbrook, it's a must ride track - It is the shortest track in Australia (the next smallest are 200m) and the closest thing to riding a short European 6 day race tracks you'll ...

Lindsay, Nice HoB on the FGG site. Mine is very similar, but I have the lugless fillet brazed bespoke frame in a nice green with gold accents. Tubing is Reynolds 531 db of course. Mine is currently seat up as a fixie, with a mix of period parts (Airlite, Chater Lea) and a few more modern parts for r...

If you need a wider pedal, the MKS Touring Pedal is really just a wider 'rat trap' and has quality bearings and construction. Cleated shoes fit fine. I've used them on the track on my Bates and also on the Falcon fixie.

Nice classic steel bike can be seen going around in the C Grade photos. Red frame, brake cables out of the tops of the levers, downtube shifters (probably friction) etc. I should have a go around in (I guess) D Grade at Heffron myself sometime soon. I wonder how the Falcon or the Bates would go? I'd...

There are a couple of panels missing from the colourbond fence around the back, this the apparent 'after hours' entrance. I had a ball on this little 165m track, it was a pity that 'B' grade was so widely split on ability, I got lapped and withdrawn all too quickly in the 40 lap scratch race. On suc...

Having a club track championships is a great idea, the Waratah Vets CC for example hire Dunc Gray for an arvo and award medals across grades on aggregate results over a 500m TT, 2000m pursuit and a 5000m scratch race. I'm sure DHBC could do the same at Tempe over 'elite' distances and perhaps a spri...
