Re: Winter Solstice Ride Friday 21st June

The MC Ride leaves CP at about 6:20 (it never leaves on time) and takes a slightly longer route than "my" Sat loop route as it leaves CP via a different exit. MC arrives close to Bondi Junction at 7:30 normally. So Jo's calculations seem optimistic by about 15 mins?. Garmin Connect tells m...

Just so you know, have read articles where it is suggested that the new SRAM Red Exogram cranks with the X-Glide chainrings work best, or are "optimised" for the matching SRAM YAW front derailleur. This derailleur in turn requires the new Red shifters. My older 2011 model has no such issues.

You can put 52/38 SRAM chainrings on SRAM Red compact ... Trouty runs that. If you wanted to sell the original compact rings I'd be interested. Also, I run SRAM Red cranks (bought 2011 model at steep discount from the hip shakers) with an Ultegra derailleur & the setup works great and certainly ...

Small snag: Driftwood cafe is closed on Easter Friday. There's another cafe next to it but I can't remember its name. Anyway, I'm sure the pub will be open :-) The eat piece of the ride may not happen ...

Taking on the carbon clincher

Interesting read: Its benefits are often questioned, its place in the industry is contentious, and its consumer value is suspect. It could even be flat out dangerous, failing where other products have no problems. http://velonews.competitor.com/2013/03/bikes-and-tech/the-torqued-wrench/the-torqued-w...

Hmm .. 227 - 259 Morrison Road wouldn't be much of a detour from the 3 gorges ride return route .. must ponder.

I have a bike he can use .. my 2008 Merida Road Lite 105 (alloy). I've just swapped the brakes on to my Pinny so need to put the ones that were on my Pinny back on it and the left hand shifter as well. Other than that it's fine. It's got a 58cm TT.
