Today's Sydney Morning Herald article today. Some guy is claiming there is even doping in C grade races! Calling for testing. This all on the day I want to start racing (for the first time) at Heffron in the C grade  http://www.smh.com.au/sport/cycling/uphill-battle-to-keep-pedlars-out-201210...

Re: RBCC Racing @ Heffron
Ok just got word I am free again on Saturday arvo. My mum is babysitting my 2 younger ones.
If that is the case, and I'd like to race in group C, can I tag along with someone going to Heffron? Don't have a car and so plan to ride to Maroubra.

I have one but am not sure how to use it. Another problem is memory size. With its present 2?GB SD memory card, it only records about 15mins at a time (the last time I got it to work).

Re: The Saga that is Lance
In a time before modern drug testing, when drugs were not frowned upon the way they are today, and riders used to visit wineries and have a tipple, mid stage, before getting back on their bikes to ride to the finish, it's hard to believe Merckx didn't take substances which would be deemed illegal t...

And don't forget, we had the oldest and most unique bikes at the comp. Big plus.
DHBC are not only fast (not the 'Derailleurs') but also fun.

Re: Brake technique
An interesting tip given to me by a XC motocross racer / mtb rider If you are coming into a corner and you want to scrub speed and not have the rear lock up is to put the rear brake on and pedal against it. This sounds like the old 'left foot braking' trick. They were used by the British Motor Corp...

Brake technique
Been reading up a bit on this and have not come up with a definitive answer.
I know CNSW has trained some DHBC riders, was braking technique discussed and/or taught?

Help! Quill stem won't come off
I acquired an old UK made, 531 Reynolds frame a few weeks ago. Got everything up and running, but at the last minute found the quill stem was stuck. The expander wedge at the bottom on the stem has fallen off the main nut and can be heard inside the fork steerer tube. I need to get this back on agai...

Re: I am guilty........
Something that should go up for discussion at the DHBC committee level maybe. Heaps of service based organisations in the Inner West. If we put out feelers, something will definitely come up. On a side note, I believe the DHBC has a 6 seater tandem (handbuilt by Alcon back in the 60s or early 70s) w...

Just got back from Downing Centre Court this morning. Jacob (lawyer) was claiming costs from the NSW Police. As many of you know, my conviction was thrown out of court on the 8th June. The magistrate agreed the Police were liable for costs because they were in receipt of all evidence at an early sta...

Early1950s Alcone 'Road Special' built in M'ville
I bought this as a standalone frame late last year - see earlier posting. Paintwork badly damaged but the essence still there. Put it together with as period correct parts - as much as I could afford. I strongly believe this bike had an Osgear set up, but couldnt afford to replace this. The Alcon na...

Looking back with the benefit of hindsight, I think the 2 funniest things that happened that day was when; At the start of the hearing, obviously annoyed at me going to court over a lousy $59 infringement notice, bringing in 4 witnesses, a lawyer and an 'expert witness' from Cycling NSW. The magistr...

Dougie was the star witness. Apparently the magistrate took a liking to Doug's testimony. Wasnt present when Doug was cross examined (I had to be out of the courtroom because I was taking the stand next). By the time I took the stand, you could see the magistrate was preoccupied with writing his sum...

Forgot to mention, Stuart H's invaluable video evidence! If Stuart wasnt there with his trusty helmet cam, it would have been much harder to convince the magistrate. Thanks Stuart.

Regarding the Slowies accident at Centennial Park on Sat 18 Feb 2012. Luckily no one else fell but I was banged up quite bad at the time. Funny thing is that the poli...

Yep, no probs with photos, but want to set it up first. Looks like a late 70s or early 80s bike but missing its Shimano 600 arabesque derailleur and down tube shifters. Wheels and new tyres have to be sorted out too. Uses 27 inch wheels. Will post in the Vintage bike forum.

Spotted Marian and Geoff too today at about 1pm. Crossing at lights on Gardiners Road, next to Bunnings Mascot. Both wore identical bright orange rain jackets. Was bucketing down at the time. Ironically on the way to pick up a new acquisition - vintage 'Bob Jackson' UK touring bike.
