It's not lactic, just DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness). Your body won't take that long to convert any lactic acid from your muscles back into something useful. I just have a cheap grease gun similar to THIS. It does the job, since all you're doing is pumping the grease through the pedal body. For the cleats a dry chain lube is fine.
This all reminds me, i should actually give my pedals a bit of maintenance one of these days.

For the budget, Shimano RS80 are probably your best choice. Custom can be good, but requires a bit of shopping around to get the best value.
What about a Velocity A23 rim??If they made a 32 hole rim I'd buy it and build my Powertap into it for training and wet racing.

Entries for this race are closing on Sunday.
It's a great race, doesn't take long to get there. There's one hill to take note of, and the roads can be a bit dead, but apart from that, nothing to be concerned with.

I last at least half the race, but usually get bored, and it's even worse when it's wet. I think i'm skipping it this year.

I've entered Ride for Life, and Kurrajong (the week after). Still have 40mins to decide on the Sydney Road Titles, which is really just a high speed training ride for me (just hang on the back as long as i can).

Can we penalise people for not using the most recent list (deleting others points)??
I reckon -100km penalty for first offence, -100km and -10 points in each category for second offence, and -500km and -50points in each category for any further offences.
