Re: A habit of crashing and now I am scared!
A few years ago we did the Queensland "port Douglas to Mission Beach" ride. It was raining when the cyclists started riding across the narrow gage train tracks which crossed the road at angles. At the first crossing I think we saw about 20 people getting first aid help after sliding out. ...

Re: A habit of crashing and now I am scared!
Fear only comes on the unknown. So my suggestion is to thoroughly analyse the root causes of the two crashes. Some possible questions, - What kind of tyre were you on in the first crash? What was its condition and inflation status? - Why were you on road paint? Were you watching and mentally trying ...

For a fleeting happy moment I read it as Weiyun providing "refreshments" on the way out. Sorry that I won't be able to provide the refreshment and will disappoint some as family duties drags me away again. Have a good ride! Have discussed with Mike on the best route and he has my download.

Re: Advice Welcome. Riding Accident. Bike Destroyed
If the only failure point was at the weld point, then there'd be an arguable case. As there's associated buckling of both top and down tubes, it's hard to excuse the magnitude of impact. And as we know, it's not so much the "biggness" of the impact, but the specific magnitude of the force ...

Re: Advice Welcome. Riding Accident. Bike Destroyed
I'm also interested in knowing the exact location of the accident. I can only think of two possible locations. The squeezed 90 degree corner at Dobroyd Pde and Timbrell Drive, but doubt any one would carry much speed at that point. Or there's the one on the shared path, east side of Leichhardt rowin...

Re: Advice Welcome. Riding Accident. Bike Destroyed
1) Membership insurance is to cover 3rd party damages and medical/income protection for the insured. No personal equipment cover. 2) That kind of frame buckle (top and down tubes) is common with significant frontal impact and I would say the downtube/BB weld fracture is secondary. In any case, frame...

An alternative ride is the La Perouse ride. Easily 60km return with excellent scenery and some hills. Ride to Centennial Park and then head south.

Re: Gong Ride 2011 - Sun 6th November
There's always a mass of riders walking, shuffling their bike at the start line. If there's been rain, it'll be a soggy walk. Unless you find walking through the start line to be inspirational, the smart thing to do is to jump around the car park and join the throng of Gong Riders 100m beyond the st...

Re: Gong Ride 2011 - Sun 6th November
My concern is I want to ride together as a team but this may not be possible with differing start times. It's more appropriate to say that you'll start with the team. Irrespective of ability, you'll find it's impossible to ride in a true bunch amongst the cycling masses and the restricted lane. The...

We saw a crash on the stretch just north of Waterfall which was a bit sobering. We spotted it before the turnaround and it looked like it had just happened. By the time we reached it on the way back, the ambos and cops were there and they said the guy was "OK". No idea what happened becau...

Re: Training Tyres
GP4000 with its Vectran belt is actually quite good in terms of puncture resistance. At the end of the day, all tyres puncture and then there's a matter of luck. You can go to Gatorskin for something even tougher, but it's heavier and some still report punctures and punctures. Personally, I've had g...
