Impressive. Being an SRM bike it would be pretty accurate too. I don't think stopping dead would have been good for his legs though.

For those who are worried about being dropped in Akuna Bay - I'm the worst climber in the world, and it's not so bad.
There are also worse places to be dropped, and the slower you go the prettier the scenery is One of the best rides to do in Sydney.

Wait, a cyclist beat the guy up? That's horrible. Was it a lycra-clad cyclist, or just a guy on a bike? Doesn't change anything either way, just trying to narrow it down.

Tony, from my estimates, the 26th would be around 50km but quite hilly, and the 27th round trip should be around 100km, if you ride home instead of taking the train. Marrickville-RNP Helensburgh exit-Marrickville is around 135km from memory.

Heffron is open all hours but bear in mind that it's also a favourite for local walkers and kids. So you'd be well advised not to sprint down the straights and take corner at high speed. You'll likely end up facing a dog, walker or another kid's bike front on. Even on race days, there'd still be th...

Eleri, tonight on 630 with George Negus. I squealed, and it startled my wife.

Have you read The Escape Artist by Matt Seaton? It's just as depressing a story. I guess we all have to grow up some time.

Re: Dulwich Hill spotted
yep that's me! was it @ the pool or in the park? It was leaning up against the wall with another bike, there was a nippers sausage sizzle on. Yummy. This morning I was coming home from work and saw Trouty riding on old south head road through rose bay/vaucluse near the diamond bay bowls club. Respe...

Lizanne, is your fixed gear the red kuwuhara with the seat way forward on the rails? If so, I saw it at Bronte last sunday. I would have found you and said hi, but I was getting a bag of ice for my wife who had just rolled her ankle on the path to the beach :( Sundays in the ER, what better way to s...

It's possible he/she has proportionally long arms and legs, but for someone of my built a setup like this, well, I just can't comprehend it. I couldn't touch the pedals or reach the bars!

Re: Base training
Ironically I coached a short one legged drill this morning. What it was more about was training them to rotate the leg thru a full circle, encouraging them to recruit glutes and hamstrings. This is really the only reason I do them. And by do them, I mean I might do a few revolutions in a two hour r...
Re: Wheels
Amy I have the sram al30 race wheels on my felt. They are 18 spoke front/20 rear, pretty light and seem to be quite stiff too. I think they are within your price range. They're the toroidal design too (pretty much zipp 101s, as sram own zipp) and make a subtle aero noise at 20km/h or above.

Re: Mid Life Crisis Bike
This thread has kept me entertained on my overnight shift, bravo. I'm fortunate enough to have experienced a mid-life crisis already, so I'm here to help. When it comes to buying bikes, I find there is a simple formula - work out your budget, and then double it. I would suggest something made of tit...

Re: I want to go to Waterfall! But not on singles/tubular ty
The latex stuff has been around for years and everyone I know who uses it swears by it.
Alternatively, get a pair of gatorskin tubulars, and never get a flat again.

Re: Wheels
I'm probably going to go those Fast Forward ones after getting a good look at Simonelli's tonight. I'd love those Eastons, they're $1300 on CRC, but they're $4k here. Failing that I will get some Pistas.
Re: Wheels
Wow, I would be interested in those as well. Don't mean to hi-jack your thread Mike, but I'm thinking of getting some better wheels and I was thinking Campag Pistas would be a good option.
Those in the club who race them, what do you think? Where did you get them and how much were they?
Thanks

Nice of them to support us like that, perhaps we could put them on our next hat/jersey or something like that (provided they were keen).

I think Mt Wellington in Hobart is pretty long and steep. Alex I climbed out of Galston with Ev and Johno one Saturday and it wasn't too bad. Long-ish, but not too steep. A guy I know has been to france/italy to ride most of the HC climbs and he says the only one that compares in Australia is Mt Baw...

The one in coogee. Dundas st, behind the surf club. Makes awaba seem easy by comparison - my Garmin rated it around 22% for most of its length, the rest about 15 to 17%. I've never completed it without a pause, but I'm terrible at climbing.
