Well it has been a while and there has been lots happenning but the omnium is set to return to Tempe Velodrome in two weekends time on the 31/07/2010. Racing will focus mainly on team style events such as olympic sprints, handicapped madi-team pursuits & finishing with a madison.

In addison there will be an attempt at the Tempe half hour record to be set by a yet confirmed ride. Rather than the first though hour record it was decded that a half hour record would be shorter to run, more interesting for spectators and give competitors a better chance at competing with the average speed of the real hour record.

Where: Tempe velodrome
When: Saturday the 31st of July 2010
What time: Racing will start at 2pm, gates will probably open about an hour earlier.
Who can come: Racing is designed and sanctioned for everyone in the club with a racing licence. We will run a begginners events/non competitive for riders with a ride it license or do not really want to race but just ride around the velodrome if there is enough interest.
Races: Team events.

& yes there will be a BBQ!!!!!

You could run 2 riders at a time

I thought about that but an objection was made to the time that would be lost in riders passing each other & if we got two riders of similar ability who would be unlikely to pass then they could pace off each other which may be unfair later on.

im the objector, if they are doing really similar times there will be a lot of time and energy wasted on passing, if they dont want to speed up and slow down a heap the passing could take a lap or more to do. If it was a 12 lap event passing would be a lot quicker. It depends how serious we want to take it really.

they can do it, but we are only doing one at a time, and people have to wait their turn, the reason its half hour not an hour, is so that its not as big an issue for more than one person to do it. Are we only doing one person each omnium? it may take us a year to get through ten :D but yeah, we can still do it :D

Nooooo! I said last night that I could finally make it to an omnium, but I can't! I have a stupid work lunch on in Bowral. I doubt I'll even get back in time for the BBQ.

I want to stab something. Or someone.

I have two or three friends who are keen to come down and give the track a go, can we organise for them to have forms to fill out/ride it licenses on the day?

They can get the forms off the cycling Australia website, fill them out and bring them down with money. That's the easiest way.

Although they can certainly do it that way, I would suggest the easiest way, assuming they own a credit card, is to go to the Cycling Australia website by clicking this link and joining up on-line. Then just print out and bring your receipt along on Sat. If they don't own a credit card then print out the form, fill it in and bring cash or a cheque.

BTW - Recreational licences are now valid year to year (by quarter) from the time you join DHBC i.e. they don't all expire on 31/12 like race licences so if you join now your licence won't expire till the end of Sep 2011. Race licences still all expire on 31/12 every year but if you join in Q3 you pay a half year rate and if you join in Q4 you get 15 months membership for the price of 12. Simple huh!

See our how to join page for more details

I've been pondering what sort of average speed i can do during the half an hour. I'm thinking for my first attempt if i think 45Km/h is easly achieveable.

If it rains today, the omnium is definitely on & the bbq, but rather than having the Tempe half hour record we will have attempts at the tempe 5 minute roller record on 94 inches.
