I'll be going in a few of these, depending on work commitments and overseas visitors. Looking forward to it.

That's what I was going to do, but as there is a late fee it'll cost $45 to race at Tempe with no prize money, not that I would be winning any anyway, but it's not the point. They must have changed the category of the race. I may just come down and help out.

So the racing starts at Tempe around 6pm? I might come along to watch and see how it all works (don't have a racing license and rode 50km this morning so I'll have to be content with enjoying myself on the sideline while you all hurt yourself for no reason ;) )

Tonight at Tempe, there will be Bernard beer on tap, and entry on the day (with no late fee).

If that doesn't get you down there, nothing will!

For anybody who is planning on coming but not racing or if you are bringing your partner, I am always looking for helpers. Also if you can come down early for the junior carnival starting at 4pm to help out that would be great too.

Cheers Simon.

Great night last night!

Thanks to everyone who came to help out, particularly Ian and Linda for bringing the PA, Dad & patty for looking after the bbq & Ondrej for supplying the beer! I believe that we drunks over 50L last night, last I heard.

Great racing by everyone. Well done to all those who got results!

Woohoo
awesome night last night. the crowd was brilliant with a little Bernard beer lubrication.
Notable mention goes to Jo who is sitting in second for the females, one point more than me, (no so) little Billy Bolton in a respectable 6th in C grade. Then, Ondrej followed by Chidgey, are 4th and 5th in B grade, with Alex sitting about mid field in A grade.
Congrats, on all the DHBC results last night, the cheering from the crowd defiantly helped me preform to my best. I finished an endurance race, with a placing!

Good luck everyone, I'm out for the next 2. It was great watching all the races last night, & particularly the DHBC betting going on lead by Weller. Great to see alot of DHBC supporters in the stands shouting out loud. Good luck Lizanne on the points, I know you will go well - you should be in for a podium finish at the end of the series. Woohooo!!

Yeah last night was brilliant! My highlights were Lizanne's wheel race victory, and Simon's paceline crushing 25m long attack - awesome!

Hey I am having trouble not falling asleep driving, I keep nearly hitting things, so have decided not to ride tonight. I have a 5 till 5 shift on Saturday too, so will work out what I do about racing tomorrow night after work.

Tom Bolt's U15 scratch win

Lizanne & Jo's podium finish for the women's scratch

Women's sprint (usual suspects)

Men's D Grade Sprint (TOFF)

and Mark

And the C Grade sprint with Nathan on the podium

Great stuff, wish I was there to watch/race. I've never seen these legendary Christmas Carnivals - hopefully next year. Great to see some other clubs at the Tempe track!

Mark Lacey 2nd in D Grade Scratch - a sweet tactical ride which deserved a win.

and a ?C Grade 3rd for ?Chris Hagemann who tactically preserved our beer supply for another year!

Karzie, that is great footage. Love that race of Lacey's. He was still way at the back when the bell rang, started his attack at the banking - fantastic 2nd.

C grade tonight :) I still don't think I actually finished a race! Me and bill started off a break away in the points with a big gap! But a kid actually sat on the front and stopped it! Probably not realizing? Or he was a sprinter setting up for the sprint which he was then not in because he closed the massive gap and they swamped us all :(

Hey does anyone know when Crafty says the racing starts at 2pm for the final day - does he mean the Juniors or those of us more advanced in years?

The Sydney Christmas Carnivals for 2011 were conducted over 5 straight days at four different venues. The carnivals kicked off at the Dunc Gray Velodrome on the 27th December before venturing to the concrete velodrome of Tempe. Next was the newly refurbished Hurstville oval followed by the 440m round Lidcombe track and on the final day (New Years Eve) returning to where it started at the DGV.

A Grade
The 2011 National Omnium champion Scott Law managed to hold off a mid series challenge from National Time Trial Champion J-L Rathbone to claim the Sydney Christmas Carnival champion honours for 2011. In the final days he established enough of a buffer so that he could afford to offer some assistance to his younger brother Jackson who climbed his way into third overall.
The highlight of the A Grade racing was indeed on Day 1 and Day 5 when the Korean National team paid us a visit. These days quickly turned into a slug fest of super fast racing. Many experienced cycling enthusiasts spoke with me and indicated that what they witnessed was some of the most scintillating competition that they had ever seen.

Image Image Image

Women Tennille Falappi made the long journey with her family from Cairns to once again take on the solid field of women. Tennille used the Sydney Christmas Carnivals last year as preparation for the National championships where she successfully secured two medals. This year she has succeeded in winning the series and we look forward to a solid performance later this month in South Australia, where she will be campaigning for a position on the Australian Junior World’s team.

Image Image
B Grade
B Grade was a battle all the way to the final event of the final day with Queenslanders Dylan Newbery and Gerald O’Connell being challenged by Coffs Harbour’s Nathan Hardaker for supremacy. In the end it was youth that triumphed over experience with Dylan taking the spoils. Dylan is a young triathlete who has turned his attention to track cycling over the last 6 months. He hopes to make the Queensland selection team for the national titles later this month.

C Grade
This division was billed as the great confrontation between Grant Law and Peter Barnard, however, it all ended in disappointment for Law when he arrived at the velodrome without his race bag. We have all done this before, however, despite plenty of people offering assistance with loan apparel, Law became superstitious and viewed the mishap as an omen of potential doom and elected not to race. Barnard took the series unopposed.

D Grade
From day 1 Victorian Jeff Drury dominated this division but was full of praise for his D grade compatriots and the friendly but competitive nature of the Sydney based carnivals.

As always these domestic events would not be possible without the support of the local businesses that provide prizes including: BBB sunglasses, Shimano components, A`qto street wear, TWE Wheels, Bernard Beer, CNSW, PPS Physiotherapy Carlingford, Bankstown Sports club and Kirrawee Cycles. Please support those who support your sport.

What an awesome carnival all round - best one yet, all grades were pretty exciting to watch, but the Koreans Vs Law brothers Vs Rathbone races were exceptional !!

what an awesome way to end the year! i had a great intro to track racing in RAW, followed by getting smashed in the state titles, and finishing it off with heaps of lessons learnt in the christmas carnivlas, and an awesome result(i got 3rd and heaps of Bernard beer!).
can't wait to to it all again.
congrats to all the riders, and special mention to Toff who got on the podium in D grade. and the Bolton family, with Bill getting some great results, and little Tom, who should be more than able to ride with the big guys at the next christmas carnival.
