Guys, I'm thinking about this ride. Closing date is tomorrow, 22nd July. Its in Centenial Park and quite a good course. I did my first race here 3 years ago. Those wanting to do the Saturday slowies ride shoulld probably go in this, as Centenial Park will be closed at the northern end.

For those of you who do the hill climb training at the park, this follows a similar course.

Thanks for the heads up. It's not looking good for me as I am still recovering from a heavy bout of flu. Tried to ride the exercise bike today and it nearly killed me after just 15mins. Can't see myself getting back to my fitness in time right now.

Take it easy mate. Your not going to do yourself any favours if you don't let your body recover.

Didn't get your message until i got back Geoff, but anyway.... I think this race is a bit tough for first-timers. The main issue is lack of grading. Masters are all lumped in together and so are Elite, so you'll most likely be riding against A-graders. I haven't done it myself, so i could be wrong, but the course doesn't really suit me well either, it's more for the strong men with lots of power.

I agree with James, its a bit of a sprint up a hill followed by false flat then a downhill rest and then flat.

Average speed in Masters last year was 41kph in the wet. Last year I averaged 37kph and got lapped on the finish line.

A grade masters are currently averaging 43kph on the flatter circuits, so I wouldn't expect the pace to be significantly different to last years.

Oh well. Just as well then.

Did anyone see the java applet application on Cyclingnews.com where it displays the real time HR/Power/Cadence/Speed data for a number of riders in the TdF? No big names but pretty neat to get an idea what the peloton is up to... Cruising along at 40+km/h.

I think you are right. I'm not going in to this for a win (ha ha!) but to get some practise. I think its a great course in the centre of Sydney. I can get some good race practice with some hills, and be back home, all within a 2.5 hour ride. It's not everyday you can race in Sydney.

So anyone else want to have a go? Closing in 2 hours!

Tour de Geoff.

In the alps

There should be riders at different speeds, so you won't be by yourself.

Good luck guys!

Due to kid responsibilities, I may not be able to see you guys race at 10am. But I should be there early to see the early race, at least the start of it.

Well that was one to forget.

Geoff was off the back straight from the start and I got dropped just before the start/finish line after battling the wind along the drive.

George, from Sutherland/St George? who rides with occasionally and I worked together to catch a group of 4 riders in front of us, but in the end I just didn't have it in me, George got on and I didn't.

About lapped 7 I got lapped by the leaders, compared to last year where I got lapped on lap 11.

On about lap 10 I lapped Geoff so I pulled up and we cruised around together for the last 2 laps.

I'm off to find a hole to hide in now.

BTW, does anyone have a wind tunnel?

Well done. I was there until around 8:30 and saw a few laps by the elite riders. That uphill was rather brutal. And the wind was really bad too. I am sure it dropped the temperature by a few degrees when it started a tad before 8.

Well done guys - don't feel bad Mike, remember what I say anyone who races wins, doesn't matter where you come. Us slowies watched a couple of laps of the elites, there was plenty off the back of that one to.

I got toasted in C grade a Heffron as well...
