Dulwich Hill Bicycle Club is proud to support the charity goals of Club members David Bonne and Scott Gilbertson http://www.c2c4kids.com.au/. The Club will be participating in an official club Adventure Ride - the C2C4Kids Charity Adventure Ride.

The ride will commence on the morning of Saturday 11th of September as two groups. The first group will travel to some of the more unique areas on the north side including some of the spectacular gorges and hills and waterways, and will leave early in the morning (Route and timing to be confirmed). It will be paced for C28s and above and will be a nice change from the usual Waterfall route.

The second group will be for C25 riders and those wanting a slower, and quicker route to the start of the C2C event. It is likely to commence around 7.30am.

Both groups will meet up for breakfast/coffee in Hornsby (t.b.a.) at 9.30 - 9.45am. Around 11.00am our Club will continue our ride alongside David Bonne and Scott Gilbertson and their supporters on their last leg from Hornsby to Centennial Park.

Finally, the Club will celebrate the end of the 3000km journey with David and Scott and are encouraged to stay around at Centennial Park between 12.30pm and 3.00pm. We, as will many other organisations, will have our Club Marquee up and will be putting on a bit of a Roller Trainers session demonstration for those just didn't get a big enough ride in!

I encourage all members of the Club to join us on this day and support such a great cause - in appreciation of the heroic efforts by Scott and David. To participate on the Club ride, you will need to first make a donation of $50 (or more if you wish), and this will need to be paid through their website fundraising site http://www.gofundraise.com.au/FRPView.aspx?fid=67301 rather than taken on the day (please wait to our Club Page is launched on their site).

Lets blitz our Club target of $2,000 and have fun along the way.

HELP THANKS......
1. Please note this in your diary now.
2. Could I please have some volunteer Cycle Skill coaches via PM to help support both rides and finalise routes. I can lead from the back for the longer ride, but will get everyone lost if at the front on the North side.
3. We will need someone from the Club to set up our stall/marquee from 10.30 to 11.00am at the cordoned off area at Centennial Park. Please PM me.
4. We are thinking of having roller training at our marquee - any thoughts on what else we can display to what will be a good crowd. Please PM me.

That means Ian you have first choice of taking the Stuart O'Grady or Jens Voight Domestique role for David & Scott. Lucky first pick.

Hi all - for those who've ridden to the Nth Shore before to do the 3 gorges, can you suggest a good route for the C25's? I've got some ideas but they involve some significant hills and the Gladesville Bridge. Is it best just to go up the Pacific Highway?

Oh, and are there any other C25 riders interested in doing this ride?

Gladesville is the way to go. Speak to T-bone, he knows the best route

Here's my Route!! This is the quietest way i know of to get up north. I usually go a slightly different way to get to the Gladesville Bridge (depends on the day), but i pretty much always come back this way, and after Gladesville bridge is always the same. From Turramurra, just get on the highway, not far to Hornsby, or turn right and go to Bobbin head to begin the 3 Gorges.

Guys - an update.

Due to feedback, there is no recommended donation amount to particate in this event. Its donation by your choice. That could be $10, $20, or whatever you can afford. All we ask is that you register it via their donation website, so we know who has made a small commitment to participate. Also, through this site you will get a tax deductable receipt (so the Federal govt can help top up your donation) By the time of the ride I will need to get riders to sign a participation form as well (similar to what CNSW requests when participating in official rides).

At this stage there is definitely a 7.30am departure. Once numbers are confirmed above 15 I will look to do an earlier departure for C28 and above riders who may want to do one of the three gorges.

Don't forget to get on board and help David and Scott's charity.

Eleri, myself and Ian are first on board. Who's coming?

You can afford it now Timmy - Geoff has changed it so you can make as little donation as $10, I'll even shout you a coffee. Stuart and I will be there - we will get on the site shortly and register/donate.

Cheers

I've done the donation and we'll be on the ride - if there are enough riders I'll be happy to captain the C25's but, and this is a big but, I've not ridden to the north shore and although I grew up in Turramurra so know the North Shore area well I've looked at James' route and there's no way I wouldn't get lost. Plus, on Gladesville bridge there is no way I'd be comfortable riding on the road at 8:00AM on a Sat morning in the centre lane. We'd need to use the footpath on the eastern / northern side surely?

I was planning on a recon ride but have no days left to do one.

I'm clueless about anywhere north of the river. I'll be following whoever gets me lost. Surely Scott and Dave know where they are going though? won't we be just following them?

Not on the ride out to Hornsby from Marrickville we won't!
Now that James is coming, at least the fast riders will have somebody to follow. I still can't see how to get from the Nth end of Gladesville bridge footpath back onto the road!

Take the footpath on the right hand side of bridge, ie the northern side. When you get to the Huntley Point end there will be a fence that turns you around. Now you have 2 options;
1. Cross the road at the end of the fence and ride along the dirt on the right hand side until it takes you within some armco, where you join a footpath that takes you all the way to the Hunter Hill overpass.
2. Go down the staircase that takes you under the road, turn left and keep left going onto the footpath that appears to your left, it will take you up a short steep hill, where you will join the same footpath that takes you to the Hunter Hill overpass.

Stuart, if you want we could ride out there tonight and I show you the nagivation

This is the way I head up north,
http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Three-Gorges359016
You still have to go over the Gladesville bridge, but you can take the left lane the whole way up Victoria Road.
Once you're in Ryde, it's pretty much the same as James's route.

Stuart, I rode over Gladesville bridge twice today and once I took the dirt route and the other time I took the tunnel route. If you are riding with less experienced riders, then I recommend the tunnel route

Perhaps the less adventurous might like to catch the train to miss all the nasty traffic bits?

Guys - we are getting close to this event and have six riders. Justin, James Fowler, Joanne,Stuart,Eleri, Ian and me.

The departure is 7.30am at Mick Mazzas. We will have an hour at a cafe before joining David and Scott at around 11am for the return ride back to Centennial Park.

We will ride over the Harbour Bridge then up Pacific Hwy in bunch formation at an easy pace. All are welcome who can keep up with C25 speed as minimum and are registered club members.

You will see links earlier on this topic to register with a donation of your choice. $10, $20, or whatever you are comfortable to donate. It is an official Club Adventure ride - each rider will be asked to sign an indemnity form to protect David and Scott (who are striving to raise money - not pay it out!).

Please so your support for this ride by signing up and letting others know you are going.

Thanks

I've been following their ride through their blog - you can get there from the website http://www.c2c4kids.com.au/

Adam Gilchrist rode with them a couple of days ago and David seems to have had an international adoption come through right in the middle of the ride so has taken off to pick up his new daughter in Taiwan which must be pretty huge. Hopefully he will be back for the last few days. Scott is getting pretty close to Brisbane now.

Geoff - I'm not keen on this route! Sat morning on the Pacific Hwy is VERY busy indeed especially as we won't be getting there till 8:15ish. Lets discuss.

Ok. We will have the route worked out and advised. Start is Mick Mazza's and end is Hornsby before meeting with David and Scott and many other riders. C25 ability, club member, and a donation of your choice to the cause will be the minimal requirements.

Stuart and I will work through the rest.

Cheers

I'm a non-starter sorry. Decided to go to the Swans v Bulldogs but it is inconveniently in Melbourne so I'm thinking my timing will be too tight.

Scott's done a couple of days where he has averaged over 30 so Stu, this might be your chance to compensate for the month of birthday.:)

Current start list; please add your name if you're coming along.

Come on people, this ride will be different for us, support a great cause and could get DHBC some very positive publicity. Plus it starts at 7:30am so you get a sleep-in. Min cost $10!

Looking forward to the event. Thankyou to Ted who is going in at 11.30 to set up our tent at Centennial Park for when we all ride in at around 12.30 to 1.00pm. Some of you may have seen the quarter page community announcement advert in the sports section of the SMH today promoting the event and finish line, and entertainment at Centennial Park. If anyone is about, feel free to come by Centennial Park. Its up at the Bondi Junction end.

Last takers - please ensure you join us for the ride. Still time to register. Would be great for the perfect peleton of 12 to 16 riders in red.

I'll have to give this a miss unfortunately.
Gyprock sheeting will be starting early next week so I am going to have to finish the wiring for the house on the weekend.
Power and data have been done but I still have the lighting circuits to run.

Miguel, No problem.

If you can donate online you get a tax deductible receipt. If you pay tomorrow with cash, no tax receipt. But either option is OK.

See you there.
