DHBC Criterium Championships ROUND 2 - Sunday 17/04/2011

Handicapps. grades split into 2. A & B, C & D, E & F based on positioning in the pointscore. One bunch will chase the other over a designated time period. First over the finish line wins. ie E may have half an hour to chase down F, if E does not catch F then then F will be sprinting for the win. If E does catch F then complete grade will be sprinting for the win. Handicapps to be announced.

Criterium: Sunday 17/04/2010
Location: Dunc Gray Criterium circuit
Start time: 7:30am- 8am
Expected finish time: 8:30am-9:30am
Cost: $5 for racing
Prize money: nil.

The plan is that everybody meet at Mick Mazza's at 6:30am as usual & ride out together race & ride back as like last month. The route has been found to be suprisingly safer & quieter than expected.

Riders will need to enter through the pedestrian gates as the main gates will be locked. For driving you will need to park on the street

If anybody chooses to drive out or is coming from another direction & doesn't know where dunc Gray is; here's the map:

So sorry to be missing this as I had to miss the first one too! But me and the missus are off to the mountains to celebrate our wedding anniversary (we will be taking the bikes). Have fun everyone.

Damn, I'm away this weekend too.

With Stuart out also, E/F grade is looking a bit thin & open to burglary. So a good opportunity for anybody who hasn't raced there yet.

(Best wishes to Simon S who I hope will be there flying the flag for Team Shimano Sora (Z grade) in my absence.)

I'll be aiming to support burglary requirements from F grade, although my first timer primary objective is to keep the steel from hitting the road

Bother! I'm a scratching too, "thanks" to visiting relatives. And I'm no longer strictly Team Sora -just got Tiagra cranks and the beast accelerates better than ever, which is to say I get to my pathetic cruising speed a little faster ;-)

Anyone who burglarises F-Grade will therefore have a hollow victory indeed.

S.

P.S. Team Sora has an awesome ring to it.

I would like to have a go at this. I don't think I need a track bike for this (from what i understand of Crits)? I guess I may well be in the F Grade.

I am sure one of you would be happy to show me the way to be fed to the lions.

Cheers

Hey Dougie, if you did Bathurst in 4:29 you wont be in F grade. You don't need a track bike and there will be plenty of people there in the same level that you will have fun racing against. Good luck...ride hard.

A Crit is a road race so you need a road bike ... you just go 'round and 'round in circles - you'd be D grade Dougie but you do a flying lap first to help grading - circuit is 800m

Soccer's cancelled for tomorrow, so if it's not raining, I'll come along. I'll join the group at the corner of Milton and Georges River Rd. (Simon, I managed to quickly get a racing licence today. If you send me your email address (or whoever, if anyone needs to see it), I can send you the email with the receipt. Thanks!)

Ouch. I underestimated the effect a Swans loss at a very wet SCG last night would have on my morale (and consumption?). Although the alarm went off, not even the dry roads could entice me out. Hope everyone enjoyed it.

Justin, we had a few did not starts because of last night, and i would just like o point out that you are all soft!! I had a massive weights session (increased my leg press by 10 kg :) then i went out lat night, and as the night went on assumed that it wasnt happening, so partied way too much and too long, only to wake in the morning to the most abysmal, beautiful day?! i nearly cried!! I then jumped on my bike which can only ride in the big chain ring (which is my fault as i havent fixed the shifter after stuffing it up) and headed off to the crit as we all know that the best way to recover quickly from a big night is to ride a bike!

I only made it two laps (my legs were killing me!) but i made it, and road off any results of last night in the process!! so your all soft!!

Fair comment.
I've had nasty cold so didn't fancy racing.
Which was disappointing.

Hope you all had a good time. I had my own Crit today at Nowra. I must say the course is just so bloody good. Would recommend it anytime. One hour plus 2 laps (2.5kms each), lots of sharp bends, down hills, along flats and up this 500 metre hill which doesn't really agree with my gravity (see race report).

I managed to ride competitively, and was in one or two breaks, and did OK up the hill, except on the last round. Full of lots of tactics - much more interesting than Heffron.

Results for graded scratch races held on the Flinders course 17/4/11

C Grade
1 Rodney Pierce = 1h 10m 27s
2 Doug Holland = 1h 10m 27s
3 Michael Thompson = 1h 10m 27s
4 Mark Robbins = 1h 10m 27s
5 John Cullity = 1h 10m 30s
6 Brendan Millar = 1h 10m 30s
7 Geoff Martin = 1h 10m 59s

Race report for the Graded Scratch Races

The Optus Nowra Velo Club returned to the Flinders Estate Trim Street course for graded racing last weekend.
This once again produced some exiting finishes that saw Andrew Jarman, Tim Devlin, Rod Peirce and Michelle Harris come away victorious over the other competitors in their respective grades in the 1 hour plus two laps format.

The C grade set out at a quick pace and as per the higher grades the attacks started early with Mark Robbins being the main antagonist with his short bursts to keep the field on their toes.
Michael Thompson was the rider to go away early in this race. He established an early lead but some consistent chasing from Rod Peirce, John Cullity and Brendan Miller saw him bought back within two laps.
The riders continued to test each other over the course of the race up the Trim Street hill and at different time?s small breaks were made but all went by the wayside within half a lap such is the even ability of this grade. Holland and Thompson were away together. Mark Robbins had short live escapes, Rod Peirce and John Cullity the same, but the field always came back together.
As the bell sounded for the last lap the race was destined to a bunch finish.
The pressure was applied up the hill for the last time and visiting rider Geoff Martin was the only casualty.
Down the hill to the line and the bunch has been opened up slightly from the pace applied on the hill. Thompson, Robbins and Peirce have the lead with Cullity, Miller and Holland in hot pursuit. As the line comes up Peirce has the lead over Thompson and Robbins but Holland has pulled out the big gears and has put in huge last hundred to pass both Thompson and Robbins.
Peirce has had a tyre wide on Holland as they cross the line to hold him off for the top spot, Thompson third, Robbins fourth, with Cullity, Miller and Martin filling the other places,
