Ride: Wednesday 25th April

At risk of sounding un-Australian, who will be up for a ride on Wednesday morning (ANZAC Day)? I'm just thinking of a round trip to Waterfall and possibly the RNP if anyone is keen.

I'll be heading out for sure. Meet time would be 6am if the RNP is on the cards.

I would be up for that.

We could always think about our diggers climbing (or descending) Artillery Hill (why is it called that BTW?)

Audley in, Waterfall out? Middies pace?

Looks like more people are keen for a 6.30am start. I'll see anyone keen for either Waterfall or RNP there at 6.30am. I'll be hitting the RNP for sure.

Cheers,

Noel

Yep count me in, my spare tubes arrived today after my disastrous two flats on the way to the cafe last Sunday... Not sure about RNP yet (who am I kidding, I'll do it).

Andrew if you can finish a Heffron crit you'll be fine in the RNP. And that sucks about so many flats :(

great ride. first ride into RNP for 12 months. Was a great group of 7 who went in, and only about 30 seconds timelapse between fastest and slowests at the key hills.

We saw our share of 'Brown Shirt' Nationist youths who seem to go on the rampage on Australia Day and Anzac day yelling abuse on us from their cars on about 4 ocassions, 3 of which were in the RNP in early morning, on a quiet day, in the middle of no where. They all seemed to be from The Shire. One group of Hitler Youth screamed that we should be ashamed of ourselves on Anzac Day. I'm not sure if it was because we were cyclists, or because one of us was of Asian complexion. Perhaps both. Imagine what would have happened if one of us was of Middle Eastern comlexion.

We never see this, to this extent, other than these two days of the year. They were so completely sterio-typed, it was laughable. I'm going to commence a quiz below. See if you can answer correctly........

D, D, C or D, E, C

I was one of the group who skipped RNP and just went to Waterfall and back. Was hurting from a ride the day before and I was being punished by the wind so I don't think I could have handled RNP.

Congratulations Lizanne. You win a plastic Australian flag to fly from your handlebars to protect you from some of our youth.

Yes Geoff, I suspect all of the above for the suspects, Miguel and I could have been the "un-Australian" ones eliciting that comment. I fail to see the logic of it, what the Anzacs would be rolling in their graves because we are getting up early and riding our bike as opposed to them going surfing and getting pissed later. I've heard a lot of abuse from a car window in my time, the usual ones of getting off the road, or asking if I pay rego, to queering my sexual orientation and vilifying my ethnicity. This one though illogical as it is, is original. Apart from that, thanks for a great ride guys.

Let's not dampen the mood. Sorry to bring the tone down a bit. It was a fabulously fun ride with great riding partners and a beautiful morning. How hard was thAt riding back from Sutherland in that massive headwind!

The behaviour of drivers on ANZAC day was partially responsible for our decision to ride the M7 bike path yesterday. Just saying. Great day for a ride though and the wind was not too bad for us.

Your right Geoff, despite the Bogans displaying their stupidity, we shouldn't allow them to spoil a great ride and fraternity, thanks to the guys up front doing the hard work against that nasty headwind in the Park, it was pretty draining.
