Sun Club Ride: Royal National Park (RNP) 6:00am
This has grown into a fairly popular ride of about 10 plus every week and sometimes pushing 15 plus. THere probably is demand for two groups, C28s and closer to Middies, and hopefully other riders from the C28s can start to join in rather than always doing the Waterfall ride.
Hence the "C28's Version" tagline meaning we don't have to destroy ourselves trying to keep up with middies pace riders on the way to and through the park and to encourage some C28 riders to come along. I'll be doing this every other week (with some variants I'd expect) starting in Feb as training for the Beechworth Gran FondoThis has grown into a fairly popular ride of about 10 plus every week and sometimes pushing 15 plus. Just wanted to say thanks to Anthony and Ben for hanging back and riding with me. Also thank you to the two gents who rode back to check up on me near the Waterfall exit. It was a great ride but I'm obviously not ready for a 28s pace through RNP. I made it as far as Sans Souci but then my legs, and my resolve, finally gave up and I ended up catching a train home from Rockdale...following which I downed a kebab like there was no tomorrow (Good recovery food!).
Cheers,
Rajiv

A big turnout saw 20+ starters this morning with only 4 middies. The C28's group was 18 strong and it all came together after artillery hill. A lovely morning out on the bike, I just need to get my powers of observation happening as I was sure I was last rider as I turned for the Waterfall climb but Rajiv & Anthony K were still behind me. Apologies for that. Also, a great slow moving paceline on the return from Waterfall. I'll be doing this again.
Thanks Stuart, it was clearly the right suggestion at the right time. A great turnout. I got to the end thinking that 4 hours sleep was definitely a performance killer but my average speed was far better than I expected so clearly the bunch were travelling at a fair clip.
Thanks all for waiting for me to crawl up the hills.

And yes, thank you Stuart for organising a fantastic ride!
Yes I'm keen to roll thru the park, are we meeting at 6.00am at the cafe?

Today we had about 14 riders and agreed to split into Middies and C28 pace once the hills started just after we crossed the Shire border outpost. Was a great ride, and now we have critical mass.
I believe there were around 30 riders in C28s Waterfall ride which was broken up into 3 groups. There's plenty of room to join RNP instead and even out the numbers. Plus cruising each week equates to no lift in performance.
So C28s - why not regularly ride RNP....
That is all

it depends what you are trying to achieve.
C28s gives a pretty decent heart and calorie workout (and clockwork return for coffee) with less impact on the joints compared to a RNP visit at C28 pace.
And there are multiple exit strategies (ie train line) if required, whereas deep into RNP it's pretty much just vultures and dingoes.

Any thoughts on this Sunday?
Was thinking of doing it solo: middies to fasties pace but would enjoy some company!

I'm up for an RNP ride this Sunday but what time do we usually get back to the cafe? I have to be back by 10am.
Is going in at Audley quicker than going in at Waterfall or vice versa?

Jo - whatever way I go I normally arrive back around 9:30am (often link up with the C28s).I'm up for an RNP ride this Sunday but what time do we usually get back to the cafe? I have to be back by 10am.

I'd say you'd make it back by 10am pretty comfortably with your current fitness but this depends on the speed of the slowest rider and whether you commit to waiting for them.
On a good day (and if you didn't stop) you could even be back just after 9am (92kms @ 30kph average).

FYI my RNP rides (solo) start at 6:30 and I always make it back by 10am (96km).
10am is doable in a small group

Sunday 6th April: 28's welcome the early morning sun return with a RNP ride,
Feel can't keep up with regular RNP riders then this is the ride for you,
A longer tougher ride than Waterfall so build endurance and strength
remember daylight savings ends so wind clocks back 1 hr
Start ride with RNP regulars and as group decide when to do our pace
A no drop ride so wait for puncture, and at top/bottom of hills
Weather dependent of course,
anyone interested

Flat tyre as I'm walking out. Sorry guys. Will stick to Waterfall.
I'm planning another RNP venture tomorrow at 6am.
Might go to Stanwell Tops.
For the return leg it might include a dollop of The Wall for sweetness and that extra tang.
Someone pray to one of your Gods to keep the rain away - please. I'm over it.

Any takers for RNP tomorrow?? I'm looking to have a easy(ish) reintroduction to some hills tomorrow. If there are peeps riding tomorrow I'll join. Otherwise I might do a solo run or wuss out and just do middies.
Cheers,
Noel

Hi Dave
Todd and I will be taking the C25 and C28 groups out next Sunday. We'd prefer if you are paid up member of cycling Australia, for insurance reasons. But give us a try anyway. The groups are well disciplined and predictable. We have a no drop policy for the 25s.
Regards
Marc

I don't mind whether we do in at Audley or in at Waterfall. Majority rules.
