Tour de Kids

So I think a fair few of you are aware that I’m taking part in a 6 day charity ride in March called Tour de Kids. TdK was set up 15 years ago by a bunch of mates with a passion for cycling who decided to organise a tour and also raise money for charity (the Starlight Foundation). I’ve got involved this year through work as a Lendlease are a sponsor and one of the guys suggested I join. Which seemed like a great idea at the time…

Each year they tackle a different route through Australia or New Zealand and this year the route takes us from Melbourne to Canberra, covering nearly 1000kms and over 14,000m in elevation (ouch). Here's the full route. http://tourdekids.org.au/2016-tour/

Training rides with the bunch have so far been somewhat challenging. They go hard and fast so my conversations with fellow riders are limited as I can’t be wasting energy on talking. And not much by way of stops. On Sunday’s ride to Bulli (and back via RNP) a toilet stop was called and I thought great, a mini break at a servo. Yay! Maybe I’ll even get time to have a snack. No, it’s a quick wee at the side of the road. Eat while you ride. I know I know. Rule #5.

If anyone likes the charity and/or would like to sponsor me the link is below. And any tips for this kind of event gratefully received.

See you on the road.
