Dear all,
Lindsay mentioned that Council contacted us to see if we had interest in a community stall for the Marrickville Street Fair on 27th Sept
http://www.marrickville.nsw.gov.au/events/festival.htm
I will try to get this confirmed in the next few days.
If it goes ahead we will need volunteers to prepare and man the stalls which are open 11am to 5pm.
We might be able to set up one or two bikes on trainers.
Anyone out there able to design brochures or signs - even simple ones?
Any ideas?
Who'se interested?
Who would like to manage this event?

Perfect! Time to preach to the unconverted while the converted are making their yearly pilgrimage to Olympic Park. That's the day of Spring Cycle!!!

Hi Geoff,
This is probably one way I could contribute to the Club.
I am happy to sit in the stall for a couple of hours or coordinate it if no one else wants to do it.
By the way if you are not exactly sure who I am you would have seen me on the back of Lindsay’s or Geoff’s tandem.
Let me know if you would like to help out.
cheers
susie
Just curious what the purpose of a stall would be? Would it be to attract new members for racing, to provide assistance to commuters, or something else?
The last time I was down at the Marrickville street fair there was a stall being run by one of the BUGs, which from memory was MASSBUG. They were giving out information from the RTA, as well as "One Less Car" stickers, etc, and were promoting cycling as an alternative to driving.
I suspect there would be quite a bit of overlap between what we would be doing, and what the MASSBUG stand would already be doing. To me, it would make sense to get in touch with them, and perhaps have a DHBC representative on their stand rather than our own competing stand. Either that, or put the DHBC stand next to the BUG stand, so that they could effectively operate as one stand.
Of course, I could be missing the point of the stand, but I suspect that there would only be limited interest in the bike racing aspects of cycling, compared to the interest in more general bike commuting, bike riding for fun, and bike riding for green reasons.
