I got two flat tyres going coming back from waterfall.

I got help getting the second flat from Lindsay. He forgot to take the glass out.
Lindsay said my tyre looked worn out.

I couldn't tell as the tyre was bald when I got it.

I got home alright but decided to change bikes instead of changing another flat.

All I can say is that Oxford St on a Sun morning is a no-go zone. 1 front end flat from a glass fragment.

brought a batch of tubes from you know who for $20, and I won't be buying anymore.
I've been getting a few flats over the last couple of weeks got anther two today comming back from Waterfall, and as I just found out I'm not getting punchers the valves are going.
Today i had a tyre deflat changed it and blew it up using a gas bottle took off got about 1km and it was flat again changed it put a new tube on and couldn't blow it up with a pump, so I started to walk to the station when an old guy stopped and gave me a tube, and was able to ride home, (got home about 11 O'Clock) not happy with those useless tubes but thankful to the guy who helped me thou.
Anyway at least I move up the table.

Front end pinch flat on the medium/fast group to Waterfall on Sunday

Hit a rut in the road near Dolls Point on the way out. At least the only thing to break was the tube.

Thanks to all that waited while I changed the tube

1. fine wire could be tyre malware itself & removal of embedded glass 2. worn area around the value.

Ready to ride out and the front tyre was completely flat on the Ridley. Glass chip and hole in the tube identified. Patched on the spot and rode out 10 mins later than planned. +1.5pts. I am really making progress in 2010!

Flat on the rear of the fixie, however when I went to get my pump, it was missing along with most of the mounting clip which had broken off. So I ended up walking to work with the tube changed but not pumped up.

+ 0.5 flat tyre

Flat on my road bike last week, one on the mountain bike this week.

I guess I only get 1/2 points for each of them. I'll admit that I played damsel in distress while my boyfriend changed them for me. Oops...

Been a while since I updated this, changed a tube or two for the girlfriend, had a couple of my own. Now I'm coming second, mind you I think I get most of my points from changing other peoples tyres.

Slow leak that I had to change at the waterfall turn around. Couldn't get the tyre to seat properly so it took a while - tube seemed to have a little too much rubber around the valve that prevented the clincher getting in.

Felty 'TT' came out this morning for a gallop and got flat on Grand Parade 10 mins into the ride. Trust me to be too lazy to use the new gaterskins I got off wiggle. :(

Didn't get far this morning, about 3km in I ripped a hole in the side wall of my rear tyre. Managed to fix it with a piece discarded pizza box, it got me home. Twas a short training session. I never wear tyres out on that bike.

Flatted twice this morning, with only one spare tube. I guess it was the bad luck from riding past christian without stopping to help. Thankfully Lisa from the track stopped and rendered me assistance.

+2 flats

I was lulled into a sense of trust when a rider who's identity will be hidden behind her bike with different wheel sizes informed me that puncture #1 was a pinch flat, so I replaced the tube and 5k later pulled over to repair puncture #2, also in the rear wheel of my fixie. This time I discovered the truth, there was a piece of glass that had gone thru my new gator/duraskin AND the tyre liner. Just as well I wasn't riding solo, as I'd forgotten my pump.

Actual flats for this year;
2 Continental Gator Duraskins
9 Continental Gator skins
1 Continental GP4000
2 Continental GP4000s chilli
1 Continental Supersonics
1 Michelin Pro2race
0 Veloflex Record

Points
+1 (0.5 + 0.5) for flats
-1 for not carrying a pump

So much for gatorskins being more puncture resistant. So they are heavier and puncture more...

Mate, it went thru the tyre liner as well, nothing was gunna stop that.

Having said that I've decided in future to buy race tyres and put the old race tyres on the fixie with tyre liners.

Or perhaps I should start commuting on a penny

Edict / Dictum please

Any points in providing tube and changing it for a 1 tube stranded cyclist ?

This is what I did on commute home. Cyclist was enroute to Cronulla - was heading for Wolli Creek train station and I saved the day... :P

Any points in it? As far as I can see - No :?

I only did it for points...lol

OK, here is the update after today's horror ride.

We were descending down Galston Gorge, and one of the guys just behind me flatted. I heard it go and so we call called out flat and stopping. We pulled into one of the hairpin corners as it was the safest spot to stop. It was Pete's front tyre that went, lucky it wasn't while going around a hairpin. I started work on it for him, and suddenly there was a gunshot, and Chris' rear tyre exploded, actually blowing the tyre off the rim. Suddenly there were two flats to deal with. I sorted out Pete's and Chris did his own (but borrowed my pump).

We set off again, and Chris got about 200m before his rear tyre again unbeaded and went off again. I didn't know but when we regrouped at the bottom I found out, and that Pete had stopped. My worry was that as they both had flats, they may not have any tubes. I set off again back up the hill and found them descending, so all was good.

We were riding through Arcadia and Chris found that he had another flat. As we were returning the same way, he just asked for a tube, and said that we would meet as we were riding back out. I provided the tube and then caught up the group again. Then about 3-4km past that point. Pete's front tyre went again, another gunshot. I again assisted, and he was on his last spare tube, and this time we found the fault. After about 5 minutes of searching. There was a tear in the sidewall of the tyre (new Conti's). I provided a tyre boot and put the whole thing back together, but left him pump it up.

At that point, we decided to just turn around (Chris had arrived by that stage), and head home. At the top of Galston Gorge, Pete noticed that the boot wasn't in the best place and the tube was starting to poke through again. We deflated the tyre, shuffled it around and then reinflated it. Luckily, despite the rain, that was the end of our dramas with flats for this ride.

Saturday on the way to CP: my first flat in 35 years, by my reckoning. Had a spare tube but no pump: -1pt. repaired by another DHBC member -0.5, who was Lindsay: -0.5 for me, but +0.5 for him. fixed the tube when I got home +0.5.

This morning, on the Kingsway. my 2nd flat in 35 years. Brought the bloody pump this time. Was paying attention yesterday, so was able to fix the flat unassisted: +1. Repaired the tube this afternoon +0.5

net result for the weekend: +0(!?) for me, + 0.5 for Lindsay.

Twas my unlucky morning

A piece of gravel made a sizeable gash in my rear tyre. Luckily not all the way through. What appears to be a slow leak caused an eventual flat on the front, and I have just discovered I also have a slow leak on the rear which I can only put down to a problem with the tube because I can't find anything else that could have caused it.

So thats 3 flats all changed by me = 6 points. I had to borrow a tube for the second flat, but I didn't ride without a spare tube in the first place so I don't think I get deducted any points. Please correct me if I am wrong!

Providing your return the tub within 14 days there's no penalty for borrowing the tube. Whoever lent you the tube get's 1/2 point too.

Ok, so I got another 2 flats today.

But I decided to try and level the playing field by leaving home without a pump, and letting Lindsay change both of them.

So I'm down 1 point now.

I brought tweezers on this mornings ride to get glass out of the tyres if need be. But I think in future I will also take a nail file, and give myself a manicure while I let someone else change tube ;)

Soo I had another flat on the front of my road bike. I found a small piece of gravel that made the tiniest hole ever in the tube, causing a rather slow leak. I have gone through both tyres with tweezers now, and if I get anymore flats I am getting new tyres (even though these ones are new, and Christian got some of them at the same time and he hasn't had any problems).

I tried to get Christian to fix it for me but he was too busy fixing my brake cable. So full points to me. Sorry :(

Even if we gang up on you, we won't catch you.

I read some interesting views regarding gatorskins and it may well apply to other tyres, true or not I don't know. That being that once the tyre is cut that the edges of the cut in the casing and cause future punctures.

Me again :(

Flat on the front of the fixie on the way to the pub on Friday night. Forgot to put saddle bag on the bike so I was carrying nothing. Lucky I was only riding to the pub because I was too lazy to walk. +1

Flat on the front of my road bike on the way home from work today. Big piece of glass... I've already changed the rear back to a GP4000. Going to invest in some new tyres this week even though the Ultremo's are only a month or so old. I think they are just too soft for training on. I was carrying everything with me this time... +2

Oh and I had to patch two tubes, but I also just realised that I haven't returned a tube I borrowed of Lindsay and it's been more than 14 days (Sorry, I will try to remember this week!)... So that make half a point more.

The holes on Pyrmont Bridge Road took out my rear tube this morning. This is just getting ridiculous. Maybe I need to think about running tubeless on my road bike.

Yes - I was already spat out back of combined Middies/Fasties and was in the Middies Gruppetto when my tyre starting deflating very slowly.

The others - in fear of missing the Gruppetto cut-off (ie. Club departing from 7-Eleven), left poor me (Nicolas Roche) to grapple with wet cold hands and a difficult tyres to fit back on.

With no one at the Servo, I commenced my chase, and caught up with the back of a massive Easts Bunch 5kms down the road, and got a free ride all the way back to Bestic St

First flat in a while, rear of the fixie, caused by the join in the tyre liner. +0.5 Not that I'm a threat to orphic.

And I avoided one one Sunday, I discovered I had a cut in the front tyre and the tube was sticking thru, so I put a new tyre on before the race.

Got a flat on the way to work I think. It was a slow leak. I thought the problem was in the rear wheel and did not work it out till I got home. It was the front left. Replaced the tube with another, the valve came out of the second tube, so I put in a third. Do you get or lose points for the valve breaking off?

Worst ride of my life on Tuesday morning. Why didn't I stay in bed? Anyway I won't go into details as recounting the story only causes more pain. I can tell you that it involved two flats though and yes I changed them myself.

Went out the shed yesterday to check on the bike before riding on Sunday - front flat.
Went out the shed today to clean the bike, front flat again.
Changed both myself.
Is parking on a live (but properly insulated) electricity cable a bad idea? On both occasions, there was no indication of softness before I parked the bike.

I fix the beast and take it for a spin into town and back and how does it reward me? With a flat as I roll into the marrickville cafe. Piece of glass, I'll fix it once I've had lunch.

Flat out at Kurnell today, i think more than half of my flats have been at kurnell. Must be cursed, never happens on the way out or way back. I always get a flat at Kurnell.

similar to crop circles - after saturday's winds I found this logo of used inner tubes on my driveway, blew my mind... :)

and guess what - not one of them would hold any air...
