Two cyclist were hit by a concrete pump truck while out on a training ride.
One of the cyclist died from his injuries while the other is in a critical condition.
The accident happened on a straight section of the road and the riders were in the breakdown lane.

Apparently they were members of the local tri-athletes club.

This is a tragedy and it seems that the truck driver may be at fault, given that police detained him and he is seeking legal advice. My condolences to the families and friends and hope that the injured man recovers

I was not with them at the time of the accident but they were both members of my tri club, both competed in the Token 12 Enduro two weeks ago and won their category, both leave young families behind.
Be carefull out there.

My sympathies to Dave's wife Jenny and family.

I have known too many triathletes who have lost their lives while cycling in Sydney.
I'll be wearing a black armband on the Australia Day ride in memory of fallen friends. Please join me.

As pointed out on another forum by a poster who knows the victims, a concrete truck don't usually do overnight shifts. 6:30am should have been the start of a day's work. The facts will come out in due course.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations to the K.I.D.S foundation (envelopes available at the church)

Dave's funeral was attended by hundreds of triathletes, Australian Waterski Team members and business men (several from overseas).
To have been so respected by such a diverse range of people in sport and business, was inspirational.

He will be missed by everyone who met him.
