Aluminium age hardening is quite a complex concept. Most modern aluminium alloys are pre aged hardened now to prevent that change of the material properties during service.
In simple terms chances are with a new frame like that changing the paint have very little impact on the "strength" of the frame.

Plenty of alu frames get re-sprayed and the changes in the alloy (if any) is probably inconsequential unless the rider is a 200lb gorilla (a long way to go for Orphic). So I think the key technical question really is, will the repaint job be as good as the factory paint job? Will the pulling apart of all the components for the repaint will degrade the frame following reassembly. As we know, reassembled machines often tend not to fit as tightly and nicely as when it was first put together in the factory.

As far as I'm aware aluminium frames are not heat treated after they are welded due to the fact they would have to be heat treated ina jig to stop them going out of shape. Aluminium frames cannot be cold set.

As for dismantling the frame and putting it back together, its just the swing arm bearings as its not a complete bike. I've seen plenty of stuff come out of factories not put togther all that well. So there is almost no chance that it will be put togther any worse then when it left the factory.

If you take the time to assemble a bike properly it will almost always be better than a factory built bike. Taking the time to do things like tapping and facing all threads, all those small things which would never normally be done in a factory can produce a perfect bike build.

Which category of factory would you classify Yeti's production line?

What's a "200lb"?

We don't live in the dark ages anymore Weiyun.

Since you are in the post-apocalypse age, you really don't need to know the meaning nor significance of "200lb" to the pre-apocalypse civilization.

I didn't realise how long I have actually been waiting for this frame. I want her now :(

And to think I could have been riding her around in all her pink glory for two months...

Oh I was just going to post in here saying 'I know nobody really cares but...'. I'm glad you care, Anthony.

The bike is nearly all together. An evening of bike building and beer drinking (ok so I drank beer and had little to do with the actual building) was spent last night and providing my rear wheel shows up I'll be riding her home today! She's looking pretty hot. Awesome paint job on the frame, better than factory if you ask me. Oh and the wheels are ridiculously hot. Possibly overkill, but hot.

Depending on how late I get her, I might have to ride straight to the track so you can have a sneak preview if you're there. I'll have to find some stuff to ride over on the way ;)

AAAHhhh! gah! I can't come to track tonight, I'm going Mumford and Sons at the Enmore! WOOO! But I want a look see! Haha, I love bikes and beer drinking nights - it's why my fixie took so long :P I'm pricing up XX kit for the hardtail, so we should be able to go for a ride on shiny new steeds together! :D

I have to wait one more day :( Oh well. What's a day when I already waited nearly 3 months already?

When do we get to see pics of your frame? I am starting to think this thing doesn't actually exist ;)

Perhaps I can get some red bling for her one day... Like some of these ;)

Think I need to take less than 8hrs to complete a 100km ride before I could justify that :?

I completely forgot I ever posted that. I have those wheels on it now, how funny. They were second hand and at a bargain price, so I think I can be excused from being slow on them? ;)
