The Sydney Rides Festival is organising a series of events in Oct 2014. They will largely be held within the Sydney City Council area. It claims to be the largest bicycle related event in Sydney. It is run in conjunction with the City of Sydney Council.

The organisers are planning to run a couple of events and have approached the Dulwich Hill Bicycle Club to help organise exhibits and riders.

The events are:

Cycle Rama - bike art and vintage display held at the Protohub, Darlinghurst, 11- 19 Oct:

This is a bike art cum vintage bicycle exhibit. It will be held at the gallery space called the ‘Protohub’, Darlinghurst (see address below). This will run from the 11 to 19th Oct.

They are looking for:
Significant vintage bikes from any period, 1870s to 1980s. A special request for Penny Farthings. Any volunteers?
This event will be held at the 'Protohub', 74/76 Oxford St, Darlinghurst NSW 2010, from the 11th to 19th Oct. They'd prefer if your bike/s were on display for the duration of this period, HOWEVER if this is not possible, just loaning the bike/s for exhibition on Saturday 18th Oct will be good too.

Pedalia, 11-25 Oct:

This includes a series of events at different sites within the Sydney Council area; CBD and Darlinghurst area. The main one will be a 'History of Cycling' ride on Sunday, 12 Oct 2014. I believe the retro guys from the DHBC will be leading out this ride. There is a special request for Penny Farthings.

This event is a community-based, not for profit event. I assume there will be lots of publicity, local media and potential TV coverage.

All riders meet at the Protohub Gallery, cnr Crown and Foley Sts, Darlinghurst:
Meet at 7.30am for 8:00am start.
Back at the Protohub at 10am.

Regards
marc

The organisers are keen to get hold of some Penny Farthings for display and hopefully for the historic ride on the 12th Oct. Anyone know how to get in touch with Stretch and Gokulan?

For those of you who have committed to ride in the official "Pedalia presents DHBC History of Cycling" ride on this Sunday.

We are supposed to be at the Protohub Gallery starting point (73 Oxford St Darlinghurst) by 7.45am.
We therefore can leave marrickville at 7.10am to allow a leisurely ride to Darlinghurst.

See you there.

Photos of tonights launch of the Sydney City Council's Sydney Rides Week and Cycle O Rama at the Protohub Gallery at 73 Oxford St, Darlinghurst.
Big Friendly Vegan claims DHBC is full of hipsters. I beg to disagree. They all live in Darlinghurst.

I've never seen so many trendie fixies in my life ......
Image

However I did spot one lone DHBC hipster. Let's not be judgemental ....
Image

The DHBC Valley Wheelers contributed the bulk of the vintage bikes on display. Cycle-O-Rama was pleased with our contribution.

This geniune DHBC 'Alcon' roadie from 1948 was placed rather ceremoniously on a pedestal .......

Others were just content to look

Lots of free beer and cider made some very smiley and quite happy. Stretch Fowler's Penny Farthing managed to do a credible levitation without anyone taking much notice.

Don't forget Sunday's DHBC Historic Ride - which is now part of the Sydney Council/Cycle-O-Rama event. We depart the Marrickville Post Office Cafe at 7.10am and head to the Protohub Gallery, Darlinghurst. Vintage and retro bikes and jerseys are mandatory.
The official ride starts at 8am with 2 DHBC Penny Farthings leading an entourage of vintage steel bicycles from the DHBC Valley Wheelers. We've just been told a film crew from the BBC will be following us around the CBD.

We met at the Protohub Gallery this morning with a contingent of DHBC (and their friends) on Pennys, vintage steel bikes, a dragster and even a couple of people on carbon.
We proceeded to ride through Hyde Park, stopped at the fountain for a photo opportunity, proceeded to the Domain and Lady Macquarie's Chair, amused quite a few locals and tourists, rode back to the war memorial where we met the BBC reporters. They took pics and did interviews.
