From: http://www.sydneycyclist.com/forum/topi ... -the-1890s

I am writing an article on tyre widths, focused on bikes other than road and track racers. In part I am trying to understand why wider tyres are popular. It seems that in the hey day of bikes in the Australian bush, the 1890's that the main sizes were 30 and 28" x 1-1/2" (37mm).

Does anyone have more detailed knowledge of that bit of history?

- anyone with an idea?
