Riding in/around Bright
Heading to Bright this weekend and while my crew will be riding XC/DH, I don't think my shoulder will be up to DH so I might have to take the roadie... I know a few people here have been down there in the past and recently, if you were going to do 1-2 roadie rides that way what would they be? Thanks
If you want a flattish ride, go out to Lake Buffalo and return from Bright - maybe 100kms
There are few steep climbs, most average around 6-7% but are looong.
There's a road up Hotham! It's a beautiful ride but with one steep bit about 10kms in. It's a 30km climb or so up to 1200m or something
If you want a long, warmer ride go up Mount Buffalo. Maybe 70km? False top on this one is disarming. Excellent views.
Falls Creek over Tawonga Gap is about 130km return with 3 climbs. There's a cafe at the resort and a really good one at Mt Beauty.
Or you could just ride to the top of Tawonga which is maybe 400m climb and about 25km return or something.
Best place to ride. I'd go up Hotham again as a first pick.

Wow Eleri, you are like the club climb encyclopaedia! First the Snowies, now this. I will have to go directly to you in future
Hotham sounds like it could be fun, but perhaps just once. Is there a cafe or something up the top of that?

There's a whole ski resort that looks like it is open in summer, bit like Thredbo. You would want to check it out, it's probably on the web. There's stuff at Harrietville, but that's near the bottom and just before The Meg (short, sharp climb I mentioned)
I'd just ride up the rail trail till I found a nice place for lunch .... it's really flat (the rail trail that is) unless you go up to Beechworth http://www.tourisminternet.com.au/brirail.htm
