Gong Ride Sunday November 4
Hey everybody,
I couldn't find an existing post for this so I'm assuming I'm the first...
So who's in for the Gong Ride this year?
Discounted entry end August 31.
Cheers,
Joe

I'm in, I hope to do there and back this year. Any suggestions for the best route back?
Hi Philip,
Myself and a friend are planning to ride back too, conditions permitting. I've done it once before and just came back the same way I went. I did it by myself, which was kind of sucky... an achievement but not so much fun, so the more the merrier!
I'm guessing if you go up the freeway it's easier but less scenic... unless trucks traveling at 110 are your idea of pretty!

The route I used was;I'm in, I hope to do there and back this year. Any suggestions for the best route back?
Princess Hwy to Stanwell Tops, turn left, continue on Princess Hwy to Waterfall, then normal route back.
I'm out this year. Putting my fund-raising efforts into the Amy Gillett foundation and the Gran Fondo in Sep. All donations welcome

I'm out this year too... Fundraising efforts on Ride to Conquer Cancer.
But good luck everyone!
But good luck everyone!
Ok I've created a team on the Gong site imaginatively named "Dulwich Hill Bicycle Club". Feel free to join up.
I think last year we raised about 22k between 16 members, which was massive! So something to aim for there.
Good luck to Stuart and Jo in their respective rides – definitely worth supporting those causes too!

I'm in too! Would be good to see some familiar faces out there and have encouragement to do the return. Hadn't considered it until now but I'll gladly give it a go if I have some company.
Wanted to do the gong ride, but allas cannot as commited for Conquer Cancer Ride as part of Team DHBC. Any donations more than welcome and very much appreciated.
Hey Peter, welcome on board. Looks like all 3 of us signed up so far are planning to ride there and back. I'm pretty sure I've got a 4th who's keen too. Hopefully a few more will come on board as the day gets closer.I'm in too! Would be good to see some familiar faces out there and have encouragement to do the return. I have talked my mum into entering. She is 63 and has never done anything like this before. We will be starting at Engadine as I think that will be enough for her. My goal is to get her to the finish without hating it. Pretty sure we will be walking up hills. Give us a wave as you whizz by
Hey, do you know if there is any way to send a message to the entire club through the forum? Would be good to boost our numbers a little. Some new riders might not even be aware of the Gong Ride.
Btw, congrats on your massive fundraising for Ride to Conquer Cancer Dougie!
Cheers,
Joe

Hi Everybody,
Continuing what has been done in previous years I suggest we all skip the official start line, as you have to line up for ages and usually walk across the line.
We can meet up at 5:45am on Sunday morning at Sydney Park, in the car park near St Peters Station – https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=21 ... 5,0.001415
There's a little shed you can use as a landmark.
People can take team pics for personal and club archives and then we can head off at 6am and blend into the crowd.
I'm sure we will end up breaking into smaller groups due to different riding speeds, etc.
Several people (including myself) expressed interest in riding both ways. I'm now doubtful for that due to a slight hip problem but I'll see how I'm feeling when I get to the Gong. For safety and morale reasons it would probably be a good idea to ride back as a bunch, so it might be a good idea to set a time and place to meet at Stuart Park in W.gong to ride back (for those who feel up to it
Any better suggestions gratefully accepted.
Cheers,
Joe

Yeah amazing work on the fundraising guys! The only team ahead of us in the bicycle club category has about 3k more and about 3x the members!
I started at Engadine with mum. She was pretty nervous before the ride but ended up having a great time. She only had to walk on a few steep bits and is now very proud to have finished.
We had good weather. It was nice and cool early on.There were some interesting outfits.I saw clowns, superheros and a few I wasn't sure of. It started to warm up a bit at the end and the beaches were looking very inviting. I didn't swim though as I had to rush* back to Tempe.
*the part where I stopped for a chat with John who was picnicking on the banks of the mighty Cooks river doesn't count.
sorry about massive photo
this guy was cool

Given that it's not pedaling either it probably felt it was a bit above wearing a helmet! The dog is not wearing a helmet...
