This race is aged based, so its a good experience to see how you go against the faster Sydney riders in your own age group. The course is flat and has a reputation for wind, but I've never struck it.

Hmmm, thinking of doing this one. Dead flat does not suit me one bit but it could help with sharpening up for other events.
What were the conditions like last year? I see mmas2 ran at about 38km/hr, are the corners treated like a crit (ie slow down then accelerate hard) or more like the regional road races?

Masters women is at 1030. Can anyone comment on whether I'd make it to the SCG for the Swans at 145pm?

Not too many corners and they are not sharp. Average speed will just depend on what happens on the day, last year I wrote "Pace was all over the place, one minute we were doing 50 and the next minute 28" Don't know what M5 average speed was that year, but it was slower than the previous years 40.2kph. Note, if its not too windy the circuit is quicker than other circuits.Hmmm, thinking of doing this one. Dead flat does not suit me one bit but it could help with sharpening up for other events.

Thanks Mike. I'm not too keen on a crit type race so it sounds like this may be a goer. 40+ km/hr for mmas5! I might have to go through past races to see if the 38km/hr for the 2's was slow or normal.

Despite being part of the women's series I am also out now as I have friends up from Adelaide. Ah life... always gets in the way of the bike.

It's a quick circuit so don't get phased about average speed. Boils down to what attacks happen

M5 report
Result: last (unless there were DNF's)
I spent Friday in bed with the flu, but fortunately I was on the improve and decided to front. Considering this my goal was simply to finish. I felt a bit crap warming up so I was hoping for no vicious attacks early on.
Apart from 1/3 of the 1st lap where I was on the front, I sat on the back for the first half of the race keeping an eye on my heart rate and didn't contest the prime.
Then feeling more confident I proceeded with attacks, initiating 2 and participating in another 2. None of the attacks were successful. John also initiated an attack and looked very strong, but like all attacks, the bunch reacted and they were to no avail.
With a low average speed of only 38.4 and no enduring attacks, it appeared that all riders were still there for the last lap.
Last lap I managed to get myself stuck at the back along the narrower 'bike path' section of the track, but got my opportunity to squeeze past just at the end going into the right hand corner. 2 riders went off the front and we chased, I had a good position, it was the opportunity I needed and I could smell the finish line but made a mistake letting myself get blocked in going over the bridge and lost a couple of positions
While not the best position, I still had a shot at it then my rear tyre blew going into the twisties at 55kph. Fortunately I managed to hold it together and not crash or take anyone else out. One rider had to grass track to avoid me. I rode to the finish line so not to be an DNF
Anyway I met my objective of simply finishing, no doubt helped a little by the slower average pace. Garmin
John did an excellent job in his first race of this sort. Next year I'm sure he will be contesting for the win. His ride was impressive.

M2 report:
Lots of surging, very aggressive and powerful out of every corner, especially the twists leading into the home straight. The drops of rain midway through kept it interesting especially when not dropping any speed! Kept to the pre race plan of holding on and succeeded. Not sure what happened last year as the avg speed was 4km/hr faster this year.
Good to see the dh jerseys about.
