Thinking of going to Calga this weekend if the weather is ok, never been there or done a TT before. Anybody else going?

I can't do March unfortunately but an hoping to get to April's. I've heard they are good and very well run.
Trouty, Weller and I did the TT at Calga last month. You just turn up and take the next number and that's about an hour after you turn up. Riders go 1 minute apart. No drafting allowed.
Don't forget to warm up first. Head off, down the ramp and enjoy the next 40-50 mins of pain. And, like Mark says, save a bit for the hill at the end.
The aim with a TT is to ride just below the point at which you blow up - and maintain that for the duration.

Ok weather is looking ok at this point so I've decided to give it a go tomorrow. Any other DHBC riders going to be there?

Did the 25km course in 41:24, average speed 36.3 kph. I think I went out a bit too hard but I had a bit of strength left at the end, so things to improve on. I'm not used to being in the drops for so long, one or two leg muscles were so sore I could barely walk when I got off the bike.

Nope no aero bars but now I'm thinking I'll drop a little coin on some clip-on aluminium ones and see how they go. I was searching for a lower and more stretched out position during the ride, I was still too arched up in the drops.
Yeah, you can't do a serious time trial with out them unless you are quite super fit, though need to do some training in them, as they can use some different muscles. You will be surprised at the massive difference they make! It feels like about 2km an hour faster.

I agree with Tim. I started on aluminum clip on bars and thought the experience so impressive that I went out and bought a TT bike. Though I will admit it's hard to get it out to train on as it's not suitable for the short road ride to CP

Calga TT on again tomorrow, I'll be there again (still haven't bought any aero stuff so it will just be in ordinary kit like last time).

Rode again today and seemed to do better again. I'm a little confused as my time was apparently 41 mins 34 seconds (longer than last time) but my official average speed was 38.45 kph (much faster than last time). I'll have to wait until the scores are uploaded so I can compare but I felt like I had less in the tank at the end and pushed harder this time. Still no aero equipment, need to get off my arse and get some clip-ons.

Nah looking at my Garmin data I really doubt I was that fast, 38+ kph average would mean somewhere around 39 minutes and I was nowhere near that fast. I think there must have been some error in their calculation of my average speed so I probably did slightly worse today than last week (there was a headwind on the way back this time for what it's worth).

Look me up on the database, I think I did 38.something on my road bike in 2011. The time will tell you if yours right
Andrew, have you uploaded the ride to Strava? Keen to see what the elevation profile looks like. If it's flat enough I may be persuaded to give it a go.
Nevermind, google yielded this result:

Mark and arrived, not raining. Warmup, ITT, warm down, pack up no rain. Drive off starts raining
Shouldn't you have also inserted:
"Mark and I arrived, not raining. Warmup, ITT, collected prizemoney, photo on podium, warm down, pack up no rain. Drive off starts raining".
Were many other brave riders (or DHBC riders) present - or were they having croissants and coffee in bed like others who were planning to come?

That's right Eleri, we do it for the luv
ITT Report- Calga 2/6/13
Phoned Lacey at 6am and discussed the weather. We decided to proceed with the view that we could pull the pin when we were there. After all, we have done road races in worse weather.
We arrive and guess what... no rain, so its on. We register. Riders are sent out one minute apart.
Head off for a quick warmup and its time to line up
Brownie helps me into the starting booth
3 seconds to go
Brownie lets go and I'm off
I'm thinking, Ken Dinnerval, 16 spin classes and my legs aren't even warm. What am I doing???
I look down at my computer and my speed has stopped working, dam, that ain't gunna help. Probably more important than speed is distance, which I don't have. I do have heart rate and cadence, so not all is lost. So I decide to try to control this ride using my heart rate, targeting 170bpm
Meanwhile Lacey has missed his slot and Crafty is helping to slip into something more comfortable [new number]. We all know how Crafty likes to play dress-up.
And he's ready to go
Way out
Not knowing my speed and distance is a nuisance, in particular my distance. Then possibly about 1/2 way on the way out, I spot the rider in front of me, the visual gives me someone to work at. I seem to hold steady to him for the way out. But just before the half way turnaround the rider behind me overtakes me and is about 10mtrs ahead of me as we chuck the u'turn.
Way back
The overtaking rider clears off and pulls out a sizable distance. Then I find myself reeling a rider in, I'm assuming its the rider who left 1 minute in front of me, but when I'm real close, I see its the rider who overtook me and cleared off. I'm almost on him and he kicks again, disappearing into the distance. I can't see anyone and I'm focusing on my stablising my heart rate, with partial success.
Lacey goes by in the opposite direction and I'm thinking "he's a long way behind" I didn't have a distance reading so I don't know exactly how much and I didn't know about his start time changing.
I close in on Blood hill and there's riders everywhere. On the hill I think I overtook 5 riders, excluding the one stopped at the side, possibly with a mechanical. The 5 riders consist of the one who started behind me, one minute ahead, 2 minutes ahead, 4 minutes ahead and 5 minutes ahead.
the 2 guys 1 minute behind/ahead of me catch me, I know we are closing in on the finish, while the speed reading has kicked in, I don't know the distance (thanks computer). The 3 of duel briefly and I leave both of them behind, but with a K to go the guy from behind comes up beside and say "nearly there" as we can see the finish tent. He pulls about 2 bike lengths on me and its over.
Afterwards
I stopped my computer, I might as well analyse my heart rate data I think. After a bit of a cooldown, I go back to the tent to check with Crafty as to my time and its 39m52s. Not my fastest time, but a good learning experience, I have an idea of what I did well and where there's more potential. And that's the thing about ITT's, you need to do a few to learn, this was my 6th, previously I did Calga twice in 2011, the NSW 2011 ITT champs and the Australian ITT champs in 2011 and 2012.
We packed up and drove off, it started to drizzle as we left. We had avoided the rain. We went to Pie in the Sky and had coffee and ate... you guessed it, while the bikes sat out in the drizzle.
While we were there Steven Berveling (SCC) turned up, he's a time trailist specialist who had a nasty crash in CP earlier this year. We discussed times and conditions and he feels that the colder heavy water laden air would of slowed our times, which made me feel better about missing my PB by 39 seconds.
Then the heavens opened up big time
