Does someone have an approximate finish time/pace for either ride?

Marrickville -> Wisemans -> Windsor 180k?
============================
6. Tim (shorter is ok as well if it's too hot)

Marrickville -> Windsor -> Springwood 100k?
============================
2. Mike (but OK with either)

Yet to vote
============================
1. Camillia
3. JTB
4. Cam
5. Jonathan (Tentative)

I'm ok with a RNP alternative if it will be more enjoyable for everyone. But how would the RNP part work?

Hi All,
I'm pulling out of the Windsor ride, happier to RNP at a steady pace and be back at Marrickville between 10.30 and 11.00am.
Not that keen on high temps is all,
Tks

Ok. Executive decision:

Meet at 6am for Marrickville -> Windsor -> Springwood 100k. Then beer and a view!

If it gets too hot we can always bail at Windsor. I'm not adverse to throwing myself in a river either.

Appoligies for the change in plans, the ride has been moved back one week to Sunday November 30th. The good news is that the weather forecast is more promising, after some showers on Wednesday it is showing 21deg for Fri.

Restart the list;

Would I be welcome? I'm a sleeper DHBC member. Did a couple of c25 Waterfall runs about 2011, probably could have stepped up to 28. But it all fell by the wayside. Since then I've done the last 2 Newcastle Overnights on an ever-more mutated 25 year old racer, 173 km in 9 hours each time. and a couple of 100km dirt back road dayrides + a 3 day tour on my trusty mtb tourer. Pace doesn't matter to me, keeping enough in reserve to finish strong does.
I'll be doing Saturday slowies for the first time in years tomorrow. But I like the sound of the Saturday Hills ride too.

You're in Drew. I'll be at Saturday Slowies myself tomorrow, so please say hi. I'm the one on the Eddie Mercxk pink & purple fixie. Mike & I decided to postpone the ride partly because of the anticipated heatwave but also because it seemed like a bad weekend for so many people. The whole Idea of the adventure ride is to introduce people to the joys of touring-style longer rides. Please do come along!

I've been talking it up on other rides - maybe I should put it up on the Facebook page? Pace fast 25's to 28's? Back by about 1:30pm?

Last year it took 3:40 moving time 93k's.

1.30 would include lunch, a think a bit earlier for those who can't do lunch. Does anyone remember the timings from last time we did this route?

As I said above: 3:40 moving time. Long stop for breakfast and at the top of the hill. We were at the pub by 11:00. It's only 92 k's.

Thanks Stuart

Based on a 11am arrive at Springwood the train options are 6 minutes past the hour and take 1h25m to Central so the 12.06 train (after beer) will put us on Central at 1.30 http://goo.gl/bKCKLy

Do you have a breakdown of the timings? Marrick -> Windsor, Bakery, Windsor -> lookout, Lookout, Lookout -> Springwood. I'm thinking we could keep track of time in case someone wants to ensure they are on the 11.06 train.

Stuarts pointed me to do some data, which enabled me to find my own data and create segments. This year will be a little slower as its a smaller group, so these are padded a little;

Marrickville to Windsor: Depart 6am Arrive 8.15am - 2H15M Strava
Bakery Breakie 30min
Windsor to Hawkesbury lookout: Depart 8.45am Arrive 9.50am - 1H5M Strava
Lookout photo 15min
Hawkesbury lookout to Springwood: Depart 10.05am Arrive 10.50am - 45M Strava

We got there about 11am last year, I only remember because it was the crossover between breakfast and lunch. I had bacon and eggs and a milkshake. Stu had a lamb backstrap and a glass of Merlot. Ha. Can't make it tomorrow unfortunately - have another 'ride' on

I'm going to do an Easter Friday 3rd April 2015 ride to West Head (no Akuna). Pace at that of the slowest rider, which is likely to be me :-) Ride targeted at C28 pace and above riders. You should have done at least 2-3 Waterfalls with the C28's or faster before coming on this ride as there are basically no bailout points unless you get a cab (or a bus).

Route via SHB / Wakehurst Parkway / Forest Way / Macarrs Ck Rd / West Head / Church Point / Narrabeen Lakes / Wakehurst Parkway / SHB.

5:45am rollout from the square. Bring 2 bottles, 2 tubes and money for food / coffee. About 125k's.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that this was Laura's longest ever ride and first time riding to West Head from Marrickville. She did great, especially given the trying conditions i.e. it pissed rain for hours on end. I understand that riding up Wakehurst Parkway from Narrabeen was an eye opener :-) Great riding Laura and a big #chapeau. Truly an adventure.

Hello everyone!
Just floating an idea for a new adventure ride.
I understand that while I was away a few people did a ride around Wisemans Ferry way. I was thinking of heading to Palm Beach, getting the ferry to Patonga, then riding north through Somersby to Yarramalong. From Yarramalong back to Wisemans Ferry. Cross the Hawkesbury, ride to Richmond then on to the finish at Springwood. It looks like it would be approximately 230km of riding with just over 4000m of climbing. The pace would be at endurance level (not so fast that we get tired, but not so slow that it takes a millennium). From my rough Strava Plannning : https://www.strava.com/routes/2247776 the route includes seven significant climbs/ascents and many more that would be similar to the eastern beaches hills. The Strava route doesn't include getting to palm beach because of the ferry break.
These hills are some of the biggest around Sydney and a great way to train for next years Three Peaks/Alpine Classic :lol:
Or the Audax ride in a few weeks.
Somersby, and Yarramalong both have general stores that serve awesome hot food. Springwood has a Bistro.
The route is very general at the moment and I'd welcome any recommendations about better roads to take.
I'm not sure if this belongs in it's own thread since it's an unofficial ride.

See you on the road,
Tim

Nice. Been looking for a way to work climbing bumble hill into a scenic 200 + ride. The whole palm beach ferry thing could make it work.

3 things I would look at

1. Riding up yarramalong valley rather than descending bumble hill. Yarramalong valley is gorgeous, and I don't think descending bumble hill would be fun.
2. Riding along the Hawkesbury for some or all of the way from wisemans to Richmond (more scenic)
3.Detouring up Bowen Mountain from Richmond. The ride is so close it seems like a missed opportunity.

Any or all of these might make the ride to long tho.

Id certainly be up for something like this sometime from September onwards.
