We were discussing last night, at sprint training, that it should be more organised as to which race to attend and on what weekends. We thought it would be nice if we tried to make a consolidated showing at Oatley Park and throw it into the mix at least once a month.

A update could be posted on the forums each week (or perhaps with more advance) where the upcoming race is that the majority will be attending. Similar to how the RNP ride works.

Based on those who were there last night we are considering the following -
10/5/2008 - Heffron park
17/5/2008 - Oatley park
24/5/2008 - Heffron Park (though I think most people have the Ken Dinnerville on Sunday, not sure if this will affect turnout)

2nd weekend of the month as the thought was that 1st and 3rd were already taken by the RNP training rides.

D Grade race report
Congratulations
Alex R 2nd place podium and to Chris R on his 3rd place
Personally
I was pleased with my own ride - I finished with the D grade bunch with an av of over 36 kph. However, the big factor today was that the wind was not really strong , rather unusual for Heffron Park
The D grade Finish
Was a real mess D and B grades intermingled riders eveywhere
Controversy
The Commissaire then advised that B grade was a "no race" for the day as they refused to go neutral and let D grade race it's bell lap. (B grade started its overtake of D on the pimple, 1/2 a lap later it still wasn't completed

Congratulations to all for some good riding... Here's some photos of D grade. Sorry to Alex for cutting you out of the sprint photo, you can just see him to the left.

Well done Michael K for your 4th in E grade as well.

Well looking over my data I could have hung on for a lot longer. My real problem was cornering in D grade, of which mine could only be described as pathetic. I'd go into each corner and come out 10m behind the person who was just in front. I think by the fourth lap this had worn me down mentally more than physically as on review of my HR data I still had more left. I was off the back and didn't feel like being told to hold my line again.

Not sure what I can do to fix my cornering issues. I guess I don't do a whole lot of it during the week as I generally train at the velodrome. More experience is what I need and I think it is going to take time, patience and more races.

Congratulations to Chris R and Alex. I'm not surprised to see Chris on the podium, however seeing Alex is a surprise.

Tim,

I guess that cornering fast just comes with experience, I typically scrape my pedals about once per race and it doesn't phase me. How many laps did you last?

What happened with Chris H ?

Not many - 4, which definitely wasn't far enough to be causing physical problems as I have ridden far longer, far faster.

I guess I now have a benchmark for the next one. I will try to improve my cornering.

Chris H dropped out around the same time as me, after an additional lap.

Average speed by my clock 35.7km/h (adjusted after deleting warm down).

Horrible finish with B grade amongst us. I was glad to finish. Congrats to DHBC riders on the podium. It was a messy finish.

On cornering ( i was the one suggesting holding the line and i was a little peeved at having to make up 10m and taken wide, sorry) take your cues from the pack ie if they are pedalling through the corner, you can too. Try not to lose momentum, and follow the rider ahead of you. also try to be aware of any riders at your side.

The other is the 3P's: Practice, Practice, Practice. You will get there. Heffron is a much better course for teaching cornering skills in a bunch then Oatley.

My 2c....

I forgot to say:
Bill turned up at Heffron in his DH jersy puffing and advised that he was a lap ahead of E grade and ran out of gas. He was pulling our leg and he had a sore foot and didn't race

Lindsay didn't race, but got the great happy snaps above - thanks Lindsay

The cornering thing - similar with riding a motorbike, like just how much faith can you have in your tyres - I've heard mentioned, move ur bike not the body :o

For those intending to go to Oatley Park on 17 May 2008 we are going to meet up at at the Park just over the bridge on the east side of Canterbury Road downhill from Canterbury Rail Station at 12.30pm and ride to Oatley.Last time we rode there it took about 45 minutes.

Travel time is similar to going to HP.

Bill - how about we depart from that park at 1pm; save waiting round so long at Oatley Park for 2.30, what do you think? Meet as per usual 1pm sth side cooks river / east side of bridge.

Great shots Eric thanks.

Eric (Kona MTB), rode over with Mike C and I to Oatley park. Mike C was late and no Bill. Half way there Bill popped up in his car. (You can't race at Oatley in that Bill)...Anyway Bill had a sore foot and took photos with Mike's phone and also Eric took some great shots as seen above.

I forgot - yes Fred was there with camera and perambulator, and had his camera going as well

We registered, showed Chris and Tim round the course. ...

Alex, Tim, Chris and I all started in the same group. Eddie a grid back from us and then Mike C another grid time back.

From the start Alex accelerated sharply down the 900 mtr hill to the flower pot turn - you can get to 60kph if you pedal - problem is you've gotta ride back up - that westerly was against us yesterday - big factor also was smaller number of riders; no where to hide. I got about 47 mins much the same as last time.

Others may have another take on the conditions. It's one hell of course...

Hey. Good to hear you are enjoying this race. Cyclists were made for suffering.

My stuff is now in the post-processing stage. I will let you know once I have posted the photos of the Dulwich Hill train in full flight.

In the meanwhile, the race organisers have posted their official photos here:

I like the photo Eric has taken as it looks like I am going fast.

That is because he moved the camera.

I took a photo of you at the hairpin corner up the hill as it was the only place I could get a clear shot as you were too fast everywhere else.

Its a tough course but it has some good scenery and some tight curves.

Nice racing guys! I missed out on this race on Sat as I ran late and then took ages to get out of Balmain and Rozelle. After knowing I won't get there in time, I turned back in Leichhardt and took my boy to Centennial Park... Rolled 16km at an average of 12km/h. He made it up the "hill" in Centennial 3 times on his single speed. So he had his hill repeat interval training and was awarded with 1 hour of games on the computer.

Fantastic result by ChrisR! Congratulations.

I wondered if the style police made any comments on the win? Do us DHBC riders have a habit of this unique winning style that was started by Huw?
