G'day guys just to let everybody know, Lindsay put through a proposal to run the NSW Metropolitan Masters Track Championships on Sat 17 Nov 07. We are running the event back to back with the juniors at tempe velodrome. It should be a 5pm warm up/start time.
But we are going to need a lot of helpers to get it happening. Since Lindsay had to suddenly fly to Greece it has really fallen to me and Grant to work it all out. I will write up a list of all the people I think we'll need probably tomorrow and then people can say if they want to do anything in particular. In true track fashion the BBQ will be the most important thing...
It is a great chance to get involved and promote the club. I'm thinking we'll try and get as much of the community down to watch as possible. The track has a lot fascination for people, there are always people coming down on Monday and Wednesday nights just to have a look.
The program will look something like this; but probably not in this order.
NSW Metropolitan Masters Track Championships trial Program
Event 1- Derby- 3 laps, 7 to a heat, 2 to final, depending on heat no.s this could be increased and semi finals added if needed.
Masters6,7,8,9
Master 5
Masters 4
Masters3
Masters 2
Masters1 (combined with 2 if to small).
Event 2- scratch race, 15 laps, 30 riders to a field, 2 heats and final if needed

Thanks to Simon and Grant who are putting in heaps to get his going.
As you can see, this won't happen unless most of our club members and extended friends volunteer to help out. That's what makes a great club.
So please put your name forward, and even indicate any preference you might have.
Simon/Grant - count me in.

Potentially available to assist.
Simon, more information on the exact time required. 5pm start but when do the helpers need to be there and until what time? Most of the positions appeared to require some experience.

Me & Grant haven't really work out what time to get everybody there at yet. You would definitely want to be there by 4:30/5pm if you were the starter, time keeper, recorder or one of those kind of jobs but for the BBQ or selling drinks you could be there abit later. For giving out numbers you'll probably have to be there an hour odd earlier. But that job will probably be filled fairly easy.
I mean with experience, it wouldn't go astray but it's not really essential. you can do any of the jobs with abit of common sense. recording numbers as people finish a race is not too difficult, well not easier for someone whose done it a hundred times anyway. If you think of Heffron on a saturday avo, all these jobs are being done, but you have to think about it if you want to remember whose doing them.
I can explain all the race rules easily to anybody whose interesed. A scratch race is just that, bunch start, first over the line wins. A time trial is one person after next starting from a standstill over 500ms & a derby is a three lap scratch race race with a limited number of starters. All are fairly simple...

Huw, are you competing? MMAS1 ?
This is very true. And because we haven't run something like this for many years we have lost that experience, except for just a few. Most of the positions appeared to require some experience.
That's more the reason to get involved, as it builds up our capability.
Part of this plan of running an event was so that we could start to plan a few more events for 2008 Calender and beyond.
So, don't by shy those who may be concerned about experience.
I wasn't going to compete. I'm enrolled as Elite, though am aware that through some fudgery I could change to MMAS1, I think. I haven't pursued it, and am happy to spend the day helping and spectating.
Yes that's what we had to do. We got 21 entries by last Sunday but they were just too few and somewhat spread out across the age groups. So we've spoken to the Fed and we are going to put it on in April. We'll put it on around the time of the Masters States & Nationals. I hope riders will associate it with these and perhaps use it as a warm-up as well.Has this been postponed? thats what the Cycling NSW page says!!
We've got the sponsorship money now so that'll be one job less for us. I think we need to start building it now so we'll boost the numbers a bit more.
