How do you tell when SRAM update their groupsets? There never seems to be a year or model referred to on the web. Is SRAM Red 2011 the same as SRAM 2010?
Shimano always has a stated model series e.g. Ultegra 6500, 6600 and most recently 6700.
Thanks
R.
SRAM Advice
They also make a TDF special issue of Red in Yellow. Red + Yellow = Orange??
I am interested in changing the gear on Simone's bike as she has small hands and struggles to reach the levers when in the drops using Shimano (even with a spacer inserted into the lever). The SRAM lever shape seems to be a better shape for smaller hands.
Anyone had any horror stories that should put me off?

You may want to get her to try out the levers first. I have had friends who have looked at the option of SRAM but they were not able to move the lever all the way across with their small hands without lifting their hand off the bar to do so.
It is possible to adjust them from how far across they are set to go out of the factory, but I don't know by how much.
I suffer the same problems and can't reach the levers when in the drops on Shimano levers. You might want to look into getting some shims so the lever is in a position where it is closer to the bars, which makes it easier.

How does that work? I can only reach the Shimaon levers when I'm in the drops! My handlebars are slightly rotated to help achieve that.I suffer the same problems and can't reach the levers when in the drops on Shimano levers. Dear DHBC Brains Trust + Tim of course
Thanks for the advice.
Trouty - one day after a Waterfall ride can Simone sit on your beloved Pinarello and see if she can reach the levers? Won't be for a while, she is off to Europe for a month. Lucky sod.
