Easter Friday 18th April - C28's 3 Gorges 6:00am
Easter Friday adventure ride run by me will be the classic 3 gorges. Done in the opposite direction to the one I've always done, so Galston in then Berowra and Bobbin Head.
6:00am at the cafe. Bring 2 bottles and some food items + cash. We will not accommodate way faster riders. C28's fitness level and pace. Route via SHB, Pacific Hwy on out leg and via Brown's Waterhole etc etc on the way back.
No list required. As long as it's not raining I'll be there.

I'm probably in Berry with your Beloved, but if for some reason I'm not I'll be there.

If I can sort some time, I'll be interested if you get a few to go. It'll be close to my longest ride and definitely the toughest so I'm willing to push myself if others are too....
I think its a great idea for some 28's to get out of comfort zone.
List:

Bloody Lists I admit (temporary) defeat.
If you're going over ANZAC bridge we'll be at western side by ~ 6:20 and SHB south by ~ 6:35: be early Also, if there only a few of us it will change to a "pickup along the way" type ride, rather than starting at the cafe. Approx times above about the same.
Here's the route. Ignore the total time as we had a lengthy breakfast stop on this ride which won't be happening this time.

Stuart, You say 28's pace, but could you give us an idea of fitness level needed? Lately ive been riding eastern suburbs hills on Saturday and waterfall, but want your opinion.
If you can ride C28's to Waterfall you'll be fine. The pace will be similar but probably a little slower as it's a long way. The climbs aren't that steep, just longer than Waterfall or Eastern Hills. And now we have Miguel to sit on the frontStuart, You say 28's pace, but could you give us an idea of fitness level needed? Thanks Stuart...You've restored my confidence a bit. I drove Galston today due to taking the kids close by and what worried me moreso than the climb itself, is that it was just one of three. Thought I could survive that one, but worried about surviving another two of them! Anyway, worst scenario is I blow up and catch a train home so all good. Maybe I should change one bike to 50/34 as both my rides are running 53/39....
For anyone who's umming or ahhing about this ride, this is the easier way of doing the 3 gorges, the climbs get easier as you go. Galston West is up and down gradient, Berowra has a steeper section at the bottom and then is just nice and steady, Bobbin Head is a flatish 1-2km section, before increasing slightly, but still pretty good.
The only "gotcha" is that once you commit to Galston, there aren't any good bail out points until you either return back through the gorge, or exit at Berowra.
Road is pretty good all the way, watch the decent into Galston as there are 6 hairpin bends (proper ones too, not these wussy ones that recommend a speed of 35km/hr, these ones are signed at 5 or 10km/hr), Berowra decent is good road surface now, plenty of space at the bottom to wash off speed before the ferry (but remember to put the bike in the lowest gear before boarding, you'll regret it if you don't). Bobbin Head decent isn't the be best, but just ride carefully and there aren't any surprises.
This is a really enjoyable ride, if you haven't done it, I would heartily recommend it.

I'm in until the last gorge then I'll leave you fine folk as I have an appointment with some fine food.
A great ride today in perfect weather with a nice 14 strong bunch. Good pace and lots of willing workers on the front. Thanks everybody for making it a great ride, and to the bakery in Nth Turramurra for being open and doing pretty good coffee.

What a beautiful day for a bike ride!
I would've loved to come along but no leave pass today.
Have a great ride,
Peter

Thanks from me to. A great day in the saddle. To good in fact, I didn't get many pics, to busy riding. What I did get can be found via the link below. I'll leave them there for a week or so, feel free to take and use what you like.
