Anzac Day Ride

Anyone up for a ride on Friday?

Eastern Suburbs, Gorges, Akuna, anything up over 75kms. Preferably not RNP cause I'll be doing that on Sunday.

6am from the Marrick @ 28s or middies pace depending on who is coming.

By the way I am terrible with directions so I can organise to meet up but not much else :)

4 Gorges anyone? Or West Head? I'm keen pending weather.

I'm in. I was thinking "the wall" but happy to head north. See you at the cafe 6am.
Have a great ride,
Peter

If we're heading north I would just join at the Anzac Bridge or somewhere up there.

I've never been to West Head so I'd be keen to give that one a go. How long does that take Peter?

Interested. I've never been to West Head either, or done "The Wall", so happy to give one of those a go :)

I do a ride that takes in North Head, West Head & Akuna Bay which takes 7 hours. We can shorten that a bit and be home before noon or do the whole thing. It's a nice ride, good hills ;)
Adam, Noel we can see you at the harbour bridge bottom of the stairs - north end.

I vote for the be back by noon option so I can fit in a quick game of 2 Up before driving down to Wollongong. But I'm still flexible if everyone wants the longer ride.

I'd prefer to be back by noon, and need to be back no later than 1pm

Well that turned a bit pear shaped didn't it.
Torrential rain at West Head meant our bunch of 8 decided to give Akuna Bay a miss this weekend. We headed to Mona Vale Rd for the ride home.
Of course no one noticed Liam had gone to the dunny at the Terry Hills pie shop (worth remembering), until we were a couple of kms up the road. The bunch was back together at St Ives but confusion at the intersection with the Pacific Hwy resulted in Noel heading home solo via Ryde Rd and Gladesville Bridge - it's ok he made it home.
The remaining 7 of us made it down the highway without incident only to come a cropper on the Kent St cycleway. A touch on the brakes was all it took for my front wheel to go out from under me and a nice slide down the slippery green paint. John and Paul came down behind me, John sporting an egg shaped lump on his shin and Paul A banging his hip pretty hard.
Liam then got a flat, Pyrmont Bridge was opened and we shivered in the cold and wet.
A great ride, thanks Adam, Brian, John, Liam, Noel, Paul and Paul.
Peter

Yes. Wet and wild.

My hip is OK, bit of road rash and bruising.
Just enough to allow me to spend the afternoon on the couch in front of the footy.

Certainly a deluge at westhead and coming back down the pacific highway! Was feeling cold, wet and sorry for myself when I got back my girlfriend didnt feel the same way :s

Peter do you have a link to a map of the ride we did today or a similar ride? I hadn't taken the route through Mosman and through the Spit Bridge, handy to have if I head to the northern beaches by bike.

Thanks for the ride

Unfortunately for me that egg shaped lump on my shin expanded quickly when I got home, eventually exploding.

Sadly my leg will need to be amputated below the knee. But the good news is that the doctor says I should still be ok to ride one legged. The other really good news is that the bike is not damaged.

See you on the road.

I hope you. Kept the stronger leg :)

You had me worried John but then I read your bike is ok.
So all good :D

Nice report, Pete.

Great hit-out from everyone - especially in such challenging conditions.

Wishing those with a few bumps & bruises, and the hypochondric amputee, a speedy recovery

Which leg? you can save a fortune by teaming up with Alex Simmons to buy shoes

Hi,

I plan to follow up with the Sydney City Council about the surface on the bike path.
It's ridiculously slippery when wet.

Good idea Paul,
Hope you're feeling better.
There are a bunch of cycling advocacy groups who spend most of their time focusing on motor vehicles whilst ignoring inadequate and dangerous cycling infrastructure.
Have a great ride,
Peter

Just got some bad news from the doc.
Bone scan shows a fracture my hip from that fall.
So six weeks on crutches:(

Paul, that's terrible news. I feel a class action against City of Sydney Council is the next best step here due to the dodgy paint on the cycleway. I'll brief my QC. He costs $8,000 per day. Is that ok with you and Peter?

That's terrible Paul, get better as soon as you can.
And John, yes we should take them for everything they've got.
But seriously - what is with that green paint?

That's a shame. Wouldn't have been a problem if you came off at any other angle at that speed. Bad luck. Hope you get better soon Paul.
