Climbing with kilos

Spotted this GCN video on Youtube a while back. However thought it is appropriate seeing that many of us will be racing in the CNSW Club Team time trial at Nowra this weekend. Not forgetting its rather tiring 18km hill climb, I thought this video would give a bit of insight how a little extra weight on the bike or rider can impact on ones power expenditure.

Apparently climbing at approx 20kmph on an 8 kg bike compared to a 12 kg bike, a rider needs to expend 22 per cent more power if riding the 12 kg bike.
Guess it is stating the bloody obvious.
