Random Kudos on Strava

Recently I have noticed I have been receiving 'Kudos' for rides on Strava from people I have never heard of. I am not following them and they are not following me.

I have my settings set to 'Request to Follow' so theoretically these people should not be able to see my rides (only my limited profile).

Does anyone know how this can come to be?

Is this people who Stava thinks are on the same ride?

Nope. They are usually people from overseas.

Yes, I have the same problem. I had a fellow from Berlin yesterday and some bloke from Melbourne last week. I have also have follows from randoms in other countries.

A bit weird.

Dougie, unlike Jo, you do not have the enhanced privacy option set to on.

I get random kudos from overseas people too. I just thought I was special. Strava always wants me to follow Taylor Phinney too - DKY.

Recently I've been getting a LOT of random requests from unknowns on LinkedIn as well. I think tinfoil hats might be in order soon.

I've had no random Kudos but have had some follow requests from randoms overseas. I delete them.

You are special Eleri. :-)

This morning I had 'udson carlos' from Rio, 'Jose' from Minas Gerais and 'Adam Brekelmans' from Minto all give me Kudos.

I tweeted Strava last night to ask but have not received a response. With 70,000 followers I can't imagine they check all their tags.

Looks like you've got a little Brazilian fan club happening there, Jo...

So how are these people seeing your rides if they are not following you? Maybe Strava have changed the security/privacy settings? Maybe send them an email or post on their support forum.

Some clues here >> http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic ... -on-strava

https://strava.zendesk.com/entries/5551 ... followers-

"if someone goes to a leaderboard for a segment that you are listed on and clicks on the time for that segment you posted it will jump to your complete ride page from where they can give you Kudos."

Comment from Strava on this link >> https://strava.zendesk.com/entries/6118 ... d-Privacy-

Basically they're saying "we'll think about it" so best to make your feelings know via email etc to get this privacy hole filled.

Yes I wondered that (as I have stalked people the same way) but it's pretty coincidental that these 3 people were all looking at these leaderboards only moments after I posted the ride?

I only made the top 10 in one segment too.

I'd say they are likely to be SPAM accounts and they have some code that does this, possibly targeting women in foreign countries? I don't mean to sound alarmist but it's entirely possible.

get into Strava about it; publicly too.

That would be my thinking as well. I think that there has been an increase in the amount of spam/phishing attacks through Linked In, and it would make sense for things like Strava to be a target as well.
