Hi

Did Oatley racing today and knocked just under a minute from my previous personal best time!

Report

I went with a group of 3 that got cracking straight from the start. I was in trouble 30 seconds into the race. I took one turn right after the turn into the first hill, and dropped back half way into it. By the first hair pin (during the first lap) we had collected two groups already.

Still in the first lap, and I got dropped at the hairpin because one of the riders we collected could not keep the pace. I worked hard for half a lap to get back, and by the time I was due for the second climb I was back on again. Took a rest and took a few short turns here and there, but soon enough, it was matter of hanging on to dear life.

A few laps into the race (its all hazy, trust me, the lack of oxygen does weird things to brain your function) we were collected by a group behind. I think this guy had a nitrous oxide kit fitted to his bike. We latched on. I moaned, groaned, blacked out, and died a few deaths, but still managed to stay for something like 3.5 laps until the beginning of the hill of lap 7, where the elastic band snapped. Soon, another rider who was with me (and who might have lost contact because I could not keep up) went round me and slowly faded into the distance. Last lap was a solo, and I raced my clock trying to get something out of it.

And success. 41min 49sec. (previous 42min 45sec)

And the guy with rocket on his bike? He ended up winning with a time of 38minutes something.

Next time you consider a set of new lightweight aero wheels, think again and get one of those: http://www.bottleorboost.com.au/

Viagra is not yet a prohibited substance, but it does make sitting on narrow bike saddles pretty uncomfortable...

Not sure where Viagra sits on the ban list. As you are also aware, the father of a Giro rider was recently caught with a car load of Viagra during the race period, which led to the withdraw of the pro rider. Supposedly they can significantly improve a portion of the riders at high altitude.

Assume it improves blood flow.
Can assume, but I have not read the scientific study on the proposed mechanism. Interesting that it did not work for all the subjects.

But is the blood flowing to the right locations?

Define "right locations". I don't know as I haven't seen a science based report on the mechanism.
