Hey to let everybody know what is going on, Paul Craft has decided to promote a new years carnival series over the 1st, 2nd & 3rd of Janurary. The series will be run at Tempe on the 1st, Lidcombe oval on the 2nd & at Dunc Gray on the 3rd of Januray.

Crafty has asked me if DHBC would be interested in heping run the Tempe leg of the carnival to which I agreed. It is a 5 year plan which is aimed at being relatively small this year and building over the next five years. He expects based upon other results he has had promoting that it will be a big money spinner in time to come.

Here's the idea:

Dates would be

· Thur Jan 01 @ Tempe

· Fri Jan 02 @ Lidcombe

· Sat Jan 03 @ DGV

Each carnival would be joint ran by Pauls Craft and the local club (DHBCC, LACC and BSCC)

Entry fee =$20 per carnival or $45 all three.

Local Club

· Takes $10 ($7 from full carnival series riders)

· Runs canteen

· Provides bib numbers

· Provides result keepers

· Provides commissarie

· Provides first aid

· Provides equipment

· Pays for venue.

· Organisers a title sponsor to the value of $500 in product.

Paul Craft

· Takes $10 ($7 from full carnival series riders)

· Pays CNSW sanctioning fee

· Provides Prize money

· Provides logistics

· Provide and pay for organisational staff.

· Provides Point series personnel

· Provides any additional officials not filled by local club

· Provides programs

Grades

· A Grade

· B Grade

· Women

· C Grade – non series riding grade

Prize Money

· $1500 min in sponsor product

· $1000 in cash

· Prizes on overall series only

· No prizes for individual carnivals

· No prizes for individual races

· Each Grade will pay to 5th place with $850 prize pool.

· Rounds 2, 3 and 4 will score 5,3,2 and 1 point towards overall series.

Each nights racing would be run on the same format. The different tracks will provide the variety.

· Round 1 warm up scratch. (qualifier for Wheel race)

· Round 2 Wheel Race (points double)

· Round 3 Sprint event “1 lap screamer”

· Round 4 Endurance race “Winners Race”

· Round 5 A Grade Madison, B, C and Women Miss’n’Out

In the event of rain

· In the event of rain or imminent rain the event will revert to the DGV

· Dates will need to be confirmed

The plan

· 2009 small cat 4 event (enter on day)

· 2010 Standard Cat 3 open

· 2011 Recognised annual series carnival.

What I need is firstly everybody who has a bike to ride to build up numbers but also people who are able to help out and plan not to ride to let me know so I can organise the event.

I think this is a fantastic opportunity for a club and hope it will build to be a massive event in the fututre!!!!!

This sounds really cool. Unfortunately, I'm heading to Bright to hit (or should I say be hit by) the hills- otherwise I'd love to help out or ride...

Its about time we had an open of some sort!
can we use this as a build up to having our own open? i want an open to ride in thats ours, not just for the vets.

I'll probably be in for the 1st and the 3rd. Dammit Simon, I knew you would rope us in to some kind of cycling on New Years day !!!!!! I will put some pressure on the other girls to do it.....but good luck getting Amy to get up on New Years Day as I'm sure she will have a hangover. She loves a beer !

Stuart may have his flash new camera by then so a good opportunity to take some pics for DHBC.

Presumably it will be a 6-7pm start so you have all day to sleep off new years eve.

I'll be there for the first one at Tempe and can help out as I won't be riding although I am planning on getting on the track on boxing day if I can scrounge a bike.

Stuart, there should be no problem getting a bike for boxing day as far as I know Geoff's vortex is still there and is probably the right size, just bring your pedals.

Cheers Nick for making the time to come out. The most common conversation that I'm hearing around the place is; what is wrong with cycling in NSW & why can't we get the riders & crowds to opens/state titles when we have a world class facility? & The two most common answers are A) we are just not catering for new riders & B) people just don't seem to enjoy it like they used to.

Paul Craft however has managed to bring a very open form of racing which people enjoy & which new riders aren't afraid to come along & ride. I think for DHBC this is a very big oportunity to get involved & get people back racing, invigorate the entry level population & just encourage everybody to have fun. I would love to see every rider who has a track bike & is around at New years to come out and race. Because I think they will have alot of fun & will be involved in rebuilding track cycling in NSW.

Cat 4?, so entries on the day?

I'd like to make it to Tempe and Lidcombe, but planning anything at that time of the year when you work as a firefighter is uncertain.
