Dulwich Hill Bicycle Club

Joining Dulwich Hill Bicycle Club

For those who are fairly new to riding, we promote a 'try before you buy' (at your own risk) policy for your first two or three road rides. After that we do insist you make a choice of wanting to join the club and get a licence, or not proceed with riding with the club.

Its very important for insurance, for rules (including UCI and State and Australian Laws), and for organisational purposes that people join if they enjoy riding with DHBC.

Track riding note: You must have at least a 'recreational' licence to do any form of track training with DHBC.

Three easy steps to membership:

  • Understand the Risks of Cycling by reading here.
  • Register as a Rider with DHBC so we know your emergency contact details;
  • Join Cycling Australia and DHBC by paying the applicable membership fee.

Joining DHBC gives you membership to two organisations:

A: Dulwich Hill Bicycle Club

B: Cycling Australia (which provides insurance and allows you to race if you have a race licence)

If you just want to ride Saturday Slowies and/or do Waterfall on a Sunday, participate in other official club training rides and/or do Track Training (not racing) you only need a Recreational licence, the cost of which in 2010 is $77.00 for ages 19 and over. A percentage of this goes to DHBC and the rest to Cycling Australia.

If you want to race on the road or track (including track omniums) you need a racing licence

July 2010 Note:
Recreational licences are now valid year to year (by quarter) from the time you join DHBC i.e. they don't all expire on 31/12 like race licences so if you join now (Q3 2010) your licence won't expire till the end of Sep 2011.
Race licences still all expire on 31/12 every year but if you join in Q3 you pay a half year rate and if you join in Q4 you get 15 months membership for the price of 12. Simple huh!

Payments:

In 2010 the preferred method to join DHBC is to Join Cycling Australia on-line using a credit card (click the link). This includes your yearly DHBC membership.

If you do not have a credit card then you can download a printable form (PDF), fill it in and post with your cheque to:
DHBC Secretary

Alternatively you can hand it to a club official at a DHBC event with cheque or cash.
