Re: 4/Mar/17 : Saturday Slowies Novelty bike ride
Gosh, not so long ago in the DHBC, riding an old steel bike would warrant some 'dirty' looks and odd glances from some fellow riders. We've come a long way. And all the better for it too. I beg to differ. Back to a time prior, it was CF bikes that get the dirty look. The in-bikes were steel and typ...

History of DHBC club colours and jerseys
Good write up Marc. So I'm gathering that the iteration of a different versions of the jersey on a regular basis started in 2008. I note that the 2008 version, which there was only 20 produced is the one above the front wheel in that photo. Surely we had more than 20 of that version. I recall we ha...

DHBC Adventure Ride - Mosman Hills & Northern Headlands - Sunday, 20 September 2015
Alfred St to the north of Burton is actually not an issue as the participant marshalling area is to the south of Burton on Alfred. So it's a clear run up Alfred from Burton, where the start line is located. As said, it's best to just go on the east side for the morning. Also note, there are various ...

Been involved in the Running Festival for a number of years and again this year. $500 won't get you anything worthwhile from an upgrade perspective. Further, lightness and commuter durability are contradictory. So, best to smile at your present Most and try to ride it to the ground. Unless it breaks or becomes unreliable, just recognise it's about the rider.

The safe route from Haberfield to USYD should obviously be via the bike path along Bay Run/Canal and onto Lilyfield Rd. Then go via Booth St, Annandale and onto RPAH etc. The law faculty is now next to Fisher Library. Leichhardt along Marion St has too much motor traffic for a comfortable commute.

Surprised that you guys are listing 52cm frames for juniors. The junior must be around the 170cm height range... Not very "junior".

Good on ya! I've driven around Christchurch and have seen the "hills" there and can feel your pains. Serious climbs.

Thanks Jo. I've been following and is aware of the growing pains in our club bunches. Well, it's good to see the Fasties finally formalising into a consistent club bunch.

Just curious, aren't all these observations the same requirement for all bunches, from Slowies to Fasties? Has riders not learnt all these bunch riding basics during their progression through the bunches? Something amiss?

Re: Cable cutters & crimpers - recommendations
I have the Park Tools model and all the cable cuts it made have been clean and square. Crimper works well. What it does badly is in the cutting of cable sheaths. It's never square and invariably the ends need to be filed and cleaned up. Yet, given the design of those sheaths, I don't think any of th...

Given that being quick on the Internet does not necessarily equate with being fast on the bike, the present registration demand may have inadvertently eliminated some real contenders. It's good for those who got in. Good luck boys and girls!

In my experience, ringing your bell makes not one bit of difference to Sydney pedestrians. Actually, I prefer pedestrians to "ignore" and hold their line. Unless they are completely obstructing, I am in total control when I plan and ride my way around them. Predictability is an important ...

From some years back, I recall the remark of a local Illawarra rider in my bunch some 15mins into the race. He tried to motivate everyone to work together and demanded an average speed of 38km/h to stay ahead and win the race. My jaw dropped... It was still fun though.

And crits typically have no hills. Ken Dinnerville has some rolling hills and then one big one that's like drop city! Enjoy!Crits are usually a bad indicator for a road race since crits are only 1/3 length or less of a road race

Interested in how you are going to reach Sublime Point Lookout via RNP? AFAIK there are no quiet roads to access that point. It's either up Bulli Pass or straight down Princess Hwy from Waterfall. If you go via RNP at Otford/Stanwell Park, then you'll need to loop back to Princess Hwy via Stanwell T...

1) The association of the two articles makes me think there's a significant marketing component in the first article. 2) Anyone who has carbon wheels surely would also have at least a set of regular alloy wheels in the stable. It's a matter of choosing the right set of wheels for the circumstance. N...

How about Campagnolo? For 10/11 speed chain pins at least, they are not designed to be re-used. Use a replacement pin or more properly, put in a chain link section to avoid using the same link. To me, reliability of the chain is absolutely critical. One of those safety items on the bike that must n...

If you care to go through the troubles, then obviously a cassette-chain pair is best. Otherwise it's a life choice and it's only money.

Given traffic rules and expected conduct on public roads, it's a sensitive "club ride" policy issue as well as for insurance purposes. It'd be smarter to not disclose your personal habit in public.
