How many bonus points do you get for blowing both front and rear on the one pothole.

I got to the 120km mark , it was bloody hot, after the Bobbon Head climb I had a choice, turn right up the old highway towards Berowra Waters and Galston Gorge or turn left to Hornsby and have a cold beer instead.

The only prep I have done for the Alpine in January is 'carbo-loading'! (i.e. getting fat from eating and drinking to excess) I think I will have to do the 150km on Sunday. The atmosphere around the course was fantastic. Womens race was equally as exciting as the mens.

According to Shimano all rear derailleurs that are pre DuraAce 7900 , Ultegra 6700 and 105 5700 series can only cope with a 27 tooth as the largest cog on the rear cassette. Unofficially I ran a 28 tooth on the rear cassette on a Ultegra 6600 series for the Alpine a couple of years ago and it worked...

Terry I am a really crap climber and did the AAC200 and the ACE250 with a compact crankset (50X34). I put an 11-28 on the back and this worked well. My current carbon bike sometimes get a shimmy that scares the s..t out of me on high speed descents. I want a bike that descends like its on rails yet comfortable enough to ride all day for long Audax rides.

Thanks for the warning on the old Ultegra levers I might go down the path of a road 10sp triple with an 11-28 on the back. That way wheels, chains and other parts are somewhat compatible with the roadbike. The bike will be for light touring only and not for hauling heavy loads (other than the rider)...

Too late for your ride but I have a box trailer with 4 bike racks mounted on top.
Perfect for camping / family trips with the bikes.
