Cycle tours in France or Spain

All Margo and I are planning a trip to Europe in August. We are thinking France or Spain and plan to do a bit a cycling, but prefer not take bikes. Does anyone have any recommendations for a company that organises bike tours in France or Spain? I've done some touring in France, but not Spain, so wou...

Report - Waratah Vets Enduro 5 April

I raced with the Waratah Vets for the first time on Monday at the Eastern Creek Dragway. Despite signing in wearing thongs and trackie dacks, I was put in C grade. The race was 100 min plus one lap around the drag-way circuit, with a prime at half way. This course includes the quarter mile of the dr...

Simon,

Top effort and a well deserved win.
That was me doing my best to disrupt the chase.
But I still got out sprinted for the minor places :(

Do I just come down on Monday or Wednesday evening with my fixed wheel bike and racing license?

I was a bit slack with posting the details of the bike. Especially after such a vigorous exchange of views. It is a 55 cm frame. The geometry is: http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/ad40/khunbazz/geometry.jpg Specs are http://www.bianchi.com/en/products2010/Road_C2C_Y0B31.aspx It hasn't been out much...

Once again, thanks for all the feedback, and for the offers of test rides. I agree that the manufactures' specs are not much help, because of the compact vs traditional geometry issue. Margo and I are away this weekend. I am riding the Alpine Classic and Margo will be giving out buns at Falls Creek....

I have just helped Margo in doing the fit calculator on www.competitivecyclist.com. I can see why the boys in the bike shop might have been a bit shy to get the tape measure out. Thanks for all the feedback. My understanding of the women's frame dimension is that the top tube is shorter because women have proportionally longer legs. Also narrower bars with a tighter curve and a women's specific seat. Our preference would be to buy from a local shop. We have visited a couple ...

WSD Bike choice - the choice is made.

After doing Waterfall on her flat-bar, Margo and I are looking for a road bike (for Margo). We have looked in some local shops, but very few have much WSD stock. Then I saw a very nice looking Cube brand bike on line at Chainreaction. Alloy frame, Ultegra and Fulcrum wheels for less than $1800, inc ...

Two of us did this ride on Saturday, John and myself, and we saw one more DHBC rider in the Park.
As a middie rider, I'd love to do it more often.
It is certainly more of a challenge than Waterfall.

There is a letter in the Jan Feb Bicycling Australia, it is a reprint of a letter sent by Sir Hubert Opperman to a young cylist with advice on training, diet etc.

You should eat meat, milk, eggs, rice, steamed vegetables and custard.

Mmmmmm Custard.

300 km in an Audax ride in WA in about 1992. We started at 6 pm to avoid the heat, rode the 300 in 12 h to finish at 6 the next morning. At one point a roo bounced through the bunch without hitting anyone. This year I did a couple of 200 Audax and will do the Alpine Classic (210 km) in Jan 2010. If ...

Here, here to Mikes comment. Regardles of the format, these crits are great fun and a big thank you for organising.

Another awkward moment on Sunday's ride was when the bunch was passed by another big group just on the fast LH coner as we came onto The Grand Parade in Ramsgate. This meant that both lanes were filled with the two bunches. At the same time a blue ford was trying to merge from the right. One rider (...
