Re: Tools

I'm not so sure about that Pedros tool. Could be a pain in the neck if you were trying to adjust something that requires the wheel to be affixed, like brake pads, for example. A good heavy mallet made of a softish rubber compound is a great tool, and one I forgot. It's one of my most oft-used tools.

Re: Tools

I've seen some bike toolkits for sale at the usual places, like PBK and T7, but the problem with buying a toolkit like that is that all the parts are usually for your lowest common denominator Shimano components. That makes half the tools wrong for someone who uses Campag or probably SRAM, and so yo...

Re: Nonbikerelated talking thread. (nsfw)

Hah! - I was only talking about this very idea at the coffee shop on Saturday. My idea was two separate races though. A morning timetrial up a long climb, then an afternoon timetrial back down again. The lightweights win the climb, but the heavies dominate the descents...

I don't trust them. They will use the info to put silly bike obstacles all over my favourite routes, like they have done to the bridge crossing South Downing Street that Slowies uses. I'm going to give them some "interesting" data for them to figure out. For example, I think I cross the ha...

I do hope to one day own a curly Hetchins. The curly stays were invented by a framebuilder who had been out on a Friday liquid lunch, and had come back to his workshop rather inebriated. Trying to finish his order off before the weekend, corners were cut. Well actually, corner's were NOT cut from th...

Hmmm. Looking at the size of the rear hub barrells, I'm still not convinced they are period-correct. I will need a closer look I think... The boxed cranks will be cottered, like the ones on the Tollis. Cottered cranks were replaced by modern cotterless cranks in the late 60s, and gradually over the ...

Not surprised, really...

Make sure you can raise the seat. They grow very quickly. Also, make sure the kid knows how to ride. I find it helps if they have learnt to ride a scooter first. Peter Bundy's daughter was riding around on a custom made fixie at age five. It was an awesome hot pink bike with proper track components ...

Ooh. Lindsay will be pleased. A Clem Eagle track bike. Nice tight track geometry too. Components look to be 1970s. The Tollis is nothing special. Late 60s, or early 70s. Junk parts, and probably a low-end frame too. The last bike looks really nice. Hideous repaint, which makes it as fairly worthless...

I've already given some money to Simon for Petrol. That was for the way down. Let me know if more is needed... Also, I left two blankies in the car. Probably should get them back at some stage. Also, great ride. Tough on the body, but oh so good for the soul. There is something hypnotic about riding...

I have contacted CityRail to ask for some sort of solution to the matter of getting stuck at Liverpool station with our bikes. Yep. The common protocol is to assume that everyone rides on 27" wheels, even though almost no-one does anymore. So 42 x 15 is colloqually referred to as 72" pretty much everywhere. The calculator is therefore giving the same answer as Karzie if you use the protocol wheel size. I.e. 72&quo...

If you want to go waterproof and possibly build up additional layers of material where the rubber/plastic has been worn away, I think Shoe Goo might be good.

If you just want to repair, Selley's Shoe Glue will probably work.

The carbon fibre sole looks fine. Looks like the glue just failed or got dissolved away. I'm sure it will work fine again with a bit of fresh glue.

He appears to be bouncing on the back wheel. Both his brakes are on hard.
Think he may have just voided his warranty too.
