It was a good ride and we got to watch speedboat racing, with waterskiers and everything. Mind you we had absolutely no idea what was happening as there was allegedly a mass start but they mostly turned up a minute or two apart. The ferry guy told us the fastest ones (without skiers) average 260kph....

I had occasion to put a prize bottle of wine in my bidon cage wrapped in an arm warmer. This worked quite well over, despite riding over the roughest 4km of road ever. Not as elegant it must be admitted.

You have to look at the "equipment" so to speak. It's not all about the racing.
And the fact that just about everyone had the same bike, we definitely had to look at other things.

We also all want to be kiwis now, they have much better kit than anyone else.

Have to say the ride was a stunning success. I was concerned about my core fitness and to be honest I couldn't of done it the previous week, but it held up.

Last year it was 14 degrees up the top of Falls Creek and 30 something down in the valley and then up Buffalo. It depends where you are!
