URGENT: DEADLINE FOR JUNIOR METROPOLITAN AND SOUTHERN CROSS JUNIOR TRACK OPENS - IS SUNDAY THE 5TH OF FEBRUARY - DETAILS BELOW

Hi Everybody,

Don't the DHBC Juniors have impeccable timing, finishing a beaut session just as the rain came?

Gold medals  this week to Collin Williamson who took training while I was away, and everyone who helped out. Big welcome back to Liam Doyle and Phil Kelly how nice to see you again! Lizanne continues to work wonders with mechanics.

This week we concentrated on the type of events you might find being contested at a junior omnium:
Individual Pursuit, 1 Lap Time Trial and scratch race. We also got practice at standing starts and using the gate. The pace-line warm up is also improving out of sight.

Tess took out the "unofficial" last lap sprint in the warm up, with Pat and Darani just behind. She also just edged out sister Alison in the Individual Pursuit with a 2 Lap time of 1.22. Also in the I.P. - Zeke led Caitlin home, Pat pushed Liam to a win as Mia edged out a determined Darani. Fastest 1Lap time trial to Tess with 40.53, Alison and Mia shared 2nd best times. Catilin and Zeke win gold for putting in a really big effort all session judging by the colour of their cheeks at the end of the session.

Full results have been emailed.

Racing
Phil Kelly has reminded us the NSW Junior Metropolitan and Southern Cross Junior Open Track races are coming up on the 18th of February at the Dunc Gray Velodrome. Here are the links to more information about the meets:

The deadline for entry is Sunday the 5th of February. You'll need a racing licence, which means up-grading you "ride for all" licence. You can enter on-line using the links above. You'll need to speak to me about using a loan bike and making sure it meets the regulations for junior track racing - you'll also need a Club shirt. Unfortunately I'll be interstate that weekend too, just to complicate the issue, but it's still possible to get you a start if you're keen. If you are, best to call me to talk through the details. My number is at the bottom of the News Letter.

Road Riding
Getting fit by road riding is one of the best ways you can improve your performance on the track. DHBC welcomes Junior riders on the "Saturday Slowies" ride that leaves from the Marrickville Cafe at 212 Marrickville Road at 6.30am. You'll need to bring along a parent of responsible adult with you, because we ride through traffic to Centennial Park. Alternatively you can meet us at the park, and join-in there. If you want to join-in but don't have a parent or guardian who can make it - I can deputise with a little notice. If there is enough interest, I can accompany DHBC Juniors on this ride one Saturday a month, so let me know. This is a lower-risk, more leisurely paced ride, suitable for most speed and ability levels. Many riders start with the Slowies and progress onto the Sunday bunch rides to Waterfall and other destinations.

Road Racing
If you want to try road racing there are a number of clubs offering fun, well organised competitions that you can enter if you have a racing licence. Southern Cross CC holds races for Juniors at Waratah Park on Sunday mornings:
http://www.southerncrosscc.com.au/

Lidcombe Auburn CC has junior racing on Friday nights 6.30 to 7.45:

And Randwick Botany CC has junior racing on Saturdays:

Again, you can call me if you need support.

Extracytacular News
Congratulations to Phil Kelly who's just become a grandfather for the 1st time and best wishes to his son Bede (often seen training at Tempe) and his partner on the birth of Sophia. In other news brought by the stork - the latest Llewellyn is due in April - Jessica and Simon appear radiant.

That's all for this week,
till next time, keep rolling!
