May omnium: 50km individual/teams points race - omnium. the race will be over a gruelling 150 laps of tempe velodrome with 16 sprints. sprints will attract points for first four places, 5 for 1st, 3 for 2nd, 2 for 3rd and 1 for 4th. However unlike an olympic style points race riders who lap the field will instantly lead the race on distance as laps will be counted as a lead rather than the usual 20 points being given, just as in a madison. The other difference being that unlike a normal points race team entry will be accepted so pairs or groups of 3 may enter and ride as though in a madison, giving everybody the chance to have a go. Though last year no-one elected this option.

Where: Tempe velodrome
When: Saturday 5th May at 4pm *** pending track booking.
Who can race: any Dhbc club member who has a race licence.
BBQ: yes.

Hope to see you all there!

I may be back, but I won't have been on a bike for three weeks or really done any exercise.

I've never made the 100 lap mark when we've done 33km points races at training. So I have no chance.... I'm looking forward to it already.

I was keen for this a few days ago, but after tonight's madison - not so much. Going to be a sufferfest for sure.

Oh far out! I only just realized this is on after mum mentioned it on Facebook! I haven't been on a bike since I didn't last a lap in c grade at that track open! And I have just finished trying to book 5 different things into my day, so I don't think I'll make it even to say hi, sorry people

This is a quick post for anyone who felt like riding in his kind of event but didn't come cause they though they weren't fit enough or didn't have the ability to finish. My two top tips to keep you in the race deep into the lap count....

1. 150 laps is a long way to ride at speed of Alex/John etc... Best approach is to show up late, and miss the start. Get dressed, spend some time on the rollers, chat to Arthur... Voila now it's only a 110 lap race. Much more reasonable.

2. Dont be afraid of being lapped, but just make sure it happens on the back straight when the bolton's (who were kindly counting laps) aren't watching. Hide at the topof the track right next to the fence so the front group may not see you, then jump back on the back of the group and act like you've been there all along. Maybe even trash talk the stronger riders. Hope everyone is too tired to notice. Repeat 9-10 times.

Great fun last night thanks to the organizers! Kudos to the Bolton boys who were super string and just blew everyone up. And big respect to Alex who rode until he literally fell off his bike. Awesome!!

Here are a couple of photos from my (brief) visit... Pat, I'll keep those strategies in mind as that was clearly why I did not compete!
