Check out the comments by the British (ex German) guy, who pointed out that he crashed on purpose. The Germans didn't recover from that start as well as the British, and ended up in the bronze ride off from it, I reckon they should be pretty annoyed, as they may have been the Gold favorites!!

agreed Tim - especially in light of badminton disqualifications... i heard sebastien coe slamming the badminton players, but i doubt he will do the same regarding the gb riders. should be dq'd for sure!

in general, things such as pulling a foot etc are a reason to crash out, and are accepted etc. (if whats his name, the minute man had of done so way back at that earlier he could have re done his kilo, but didn't.). But the problem here, is I wonder if they did it to put off the German team who were the other faves?

I just read what he said literally - he just didn't get out as well as he wanted, and they had a predetermined plan to purposefully crash and get a restart. How long has that rule been around for - how come shane kelly didn't get a restart in barcelona - or is it only for crashes and not mechanicals?

and yeah as you said stuart, sooooo stupid to admit it! and their 'lost in translation' excuse is terrible...

"We were saying if we have a bad start we need to crash to get a restart. I just crashed, I did it on purpose to get a restart, just to have the fastest ride. I did it. So it was all planned, really"

What have me misunderstood?

thats the lad I was thinking of, Shane Kelly, he just needed to put his foot on the ground, or have a crash to restart

here's the videos we can access.

It's under 'Men's cycling team sprint heats' at the very end. Very dodgy if it was on purpose, defies the olympic oath and should be disqualification.

I reckon GB were lucky having a rider for the sprint, and a rider for the Kieran, it worked well. Great racing the whole thing though!

There was a lot of coverage on that here (London) and apparently the rule was changed because of Shane Kelly. They decreed that it wasn't fair to lose 4 years of hard work because of a mechanical so the race would be restarted.

The gentleman in question in this case is apparently German but could race for the English by blood line so everyone is blaming his comments on his poor use of English!

But hey, Anna won, so all is right with the world.
