Hi there, let's use this thread to discuss, organise, plan and inspire the women in DHBC interested in Track cycling.

A few things that are happening at the moment:
1. Wednesday night roller training from 7 - 8pm. Bring your bicycle along or you can borrow a club bike.
2. Track training night is on the first Monday of the month from 6:30 to 8:30pm. If you don't have a track bike, you may borrow a club one.
3. Seeking interest (numbers) of ladies who wish to commence or continue Saturday afternoon training for women.

On this thread I will post up when new training starts or if training is cancelled.

Let me know if there is specific training you are interested in etc. Don't forget that there is always training on: rain, hail or shine :)

See you soon,
Jessica

Update of what's happenning over the next week:

* Tomorrow morning (sorry about the late notice!) there will be an easy Kurnell ride. We will cruise there and may even enjoy a coffee :). Meet in the morning at Marrickville Rd Cafe at 6:30am.

*Tempe Velodrome is hosting one of the infamous Sydney Christmas Carnivals! Come along and check it out, see what all the rage is about. Racing for the seniors starts at 6pm and I believe that the Juniors start at 3:30pm.

*Wednesday January 2nd, roller training is on. New riders are always welcome! Just bring your bike and a water bottle, we can sort out the rest. 7 to 8pm. ***Dayna - please bring the tunes!***

*Monday January 7 - track training! Be ready at the track at 6:30pm to get warmed up and ready for 7pm.

See you soon,
Jessica

Jess, I won't be coming. My brother is staying the weekend with me. He was happy to sit in the stands at the track and watch, but I don't think watching us on rollers would be that interesting for him...

Hi All,

Thanks to the weather we had a fantastic rollers session, with a total of 9 riders who were unperturbed by a little rain.
Hopefully it won't rain for all of March, giving us the opportunity of riding on the track itself. If not, rollers is always fun, especially when the music works!

A big thanks to all those who made it a fun session. Welcome to the new riders and welcome back to the rest of you :)

For those of you whoare familiar with riding of the track, women's training is also on the first monday of the month, which is tomorrow. So come along and we will hopefully get some training in. If not, there's always more rollers :)

For those of you who can't make Monday, never fear! Wednesday night rollers is on from 7 to 8pm.

See you soon,
Jessica

Is womens track training on Sat 23rd March at 3pm? I notice DBHC is hosting the Sydney classic Bicycle show at the Velodrome on the same day until 5pm

Hi all,

My apologies for my absence on Saturday, but it sounds like all went smoothly none-the-less.
A big thank you to our wonderful helpers, Matt and Kevin, and a huge thank you to Tim for jumping in a the last minute.
I am looking forward to hearing from you all how it went. Did you all get a 500metre TT time? etc.

Don't forget that the Classic Bike Show is on next Saturday, therefore training is cancelled just for that one week.

Saturday training will resume on the 30th (from 3 to 5pm) and don't forget - Easter Monday is the first Monday of the month, so yes there will be training! Be there at 6:30pm for warm up.

See you at rollers on Wednesday.

Jessica :)

Hi All,

Eleri pointed out to me that I haven't been posting/ updating this thread for a while.

So Saturday track training is still going really well. We have had around 12 riders every week.
Everyone's skills are increasing and it is a load of fun. If anyone else has been thinking of coming down to the track and giving it a go, you are more than welcome. Post here if you are thinking of coming along.

Women's track training is on the first Monday of the month, which will be not this Monday but the one after.

See you soon.

Hi Jess,

just wanted to say thanks for the womens track session on Saturday. I am really enjoying our Saturday afternoon session and learing lots. I particularly love the way everyone is so supportive of each other and genuinely wants to see everyone succeed.

To you personally Jess, you have such a lovely way of coaching and are very encouraging of us all and give us individual feedback

For any women who have thought about riding the track, I would strongly encourage you to join us on a Saturday afternoon.

Thanks and looking forward to next Saturday ... Jacqui

Great news, I have confirmation that it is sufficient to have a comessaire to be present on Saturday's, so the good news is we will continue! Well for now anyways...

**Thanks Jacqui for the kind words on the above post :)

See you all on Saturday. Track is on rain, hail or shine!

Hi All,

With all the rain lately, you would be impressed to know that we've still had 9 riders improving their technique and leg speed on rollers and trainers. Every week, everyone is improving out of sight. Those of you who have been perturbed by the rain, you are missing out on some great training! Come and join in :)

I hope everyone is considering riding RAW this year, it is a great experience that shouldn't be missed. You get race experience by racing! If you have been coming along to Saturday afternoons regularly and are a little hesitant or have any questions, give me a call or we have a coffee chat.

I have some exciting plans for us this Saturday.
See you there.

That's fantastic Jess, well done. My motivation is at zero at the mo, so sounds like your girls can teach me a thing or 2. Seriously 15 girls....learning and riding on the track for DHBC. Awesome effort.

Hi,

I recently joined DHBC, and has 0 experience in track cycling.
I predominantly ride on the road, but I'm very keen to give track cycling a try
Is the regular saturday session open to the inexperienced woman as well? Or should I wait until there is a track try out session?
Cheers,

Anna

Jessica will sort you out in no time.Just bring your shoes/pedals, helmet, gloves and five bucks. If you don't know how to take your pedals off your road bike just bring the bike.

Hi All,

A reminder that women's track is back this coming weekend, Saturday September 7th at the new time of 2 - 4pm.

All women and girls welcome, newbies and regulars.
If you've been thinking of coming along, pop on down on Saturday to have a chat - and bring your cycling gear.

To all the support fellows (dads, husbands, partners, friends, family), there are little jobs for you to do, so don't run off!
These include:
1. Leaf blower on the track
2. Any little mechanical help or questions
3. handlers (on the rollers or for standing starts)
4. setting up
5. lap board turner / counter
6. writing up results
7. bell ringing

Also please no children left in my care without discussion before-hand and I have all emergency contact details. This includes anyone under 16.

See you Saturday,
Jessica

Saturday 5th October
We were back after a week off and had 12 riders. After a warmup was flying 200's. I think the magpie attack motivated Zanzi to do her tempe pb. Jenny was happy to beat her kids for the first time!!!. Lizanne's combination of secret training and putting air in her tyres also paid off

Dayna 15.79
Jenny 16.47 beat all her kids
Sally 18.42
Alison 16.72
Sarah 14.34(this one looks pretty fast too pb?????)
Jacqui 16.57
Image
Zanzi 13.94 tpb

Tess 16.65
Mia 18.65
Darani 18.00
Anna 16.28
Image
Lizanne 12.69 tpb

Next was a 25 lap points race with a sprint every fifth lap
Lizanne 23
Zanzi 15
Jacqui 0
Everyone else was minus something

Last was a three lap wheel race. There must have been some great riding in the front group as they stayed away for the win.
1 Tess
2 Mia
3 Jenny

Thanks to the dads and grandads for helping out and Jessica for running the session every week. Good luck to all the juniors racing at Dunc Gray next weekend. Next week is a great week for any of you who have been thinking about trying the track to come down. We also welcome spectators and helpers(no experience needed)

Saturday 12th October
We had 8 riders. Some of the juniors were racing at Dunc Gray. I hope you had fun. How did you go?
We had a new rider today.Welcome Lisa.

Kylie and Lisa

After warmup we did some paceline practice, doing half-lap turns so we all had plenty of turns on the front. After a while the group started to shrink until last few laps when it was just Tess and myself. We worked really well together. Tess rode fast, smooth and predictably which is exactly what was needed. Keep up the good work!!

Next was a twenty lap scratch race(we stick together for the first ten to give everyone a go). Anna took off after the neutral laps.Me and Tess chased to form a group of three. Anna was the strongest rider and could have easily dropped us if she went early. Luckily for me she didn't
1.Dayna
2.Anna
3.Tess

Then we tried 3k pursuits with teams of 3.
Sally/Kylie/Mia 5.55
Dayna/Tess/Anna 5.32

It was fun. See you all next week.

Hi All,

For all of you, please consider joining Southern Cross Cycling Club's women's only criterion race on Sunday October 27th.
It's for beginners to have a go at crit racing. You need a road bike and be there by 7:10am. I will come along with the little lady to cheer you all on. If you don't yet have a race licence, I suggest you get one! 2014 licences available now, so you get 3 free months of racing! It's at Waratah Park in Sutherland.

You are all capable of doing this and having a great time. It's a 20 minute race plus a lap or 2 after that. They will explain the rules on the day :)

Here's the link:
http://www.southerncrosscc.com.au/give- ... tober-6th/

I mentioned on Saturday that I thought it was on Saturday, but when I check again I realised it's Sunday, so don't make the same mistake as me! Give me a call or send me a message if you have any questions. You may want to ride out with C25s on Sunday morning, they go right past there and should get you there on time, plus you will be warmed up.

See you on Saturday arvo,
Jessica

Hi Everyone,

I am trying to post some images from track last Saturday but cant work out how to do it on the forum.

When I click on the 'img' button I get this on my post . I have tried to copy 'n paste the image file and also copy 'n paste the actual image rather than the file. I have tried putting them in the beginning, middle and end of . No luck. The photos are from my iPhone and are a .png image and are roughly 700kb

Thanks ... Jacqui

Hi Jacqui,

The forum doesnt allow you to embed the image into it, you have to host them externally and then put the URL link into the img brackets. Try somewhere like postimage.org to host the images.

Track - Saturday 19th October 2013

We had six 6 riders, a few less than usual but we were a small keen group.

We started the session with a 20 lap scratch race, then ‘catch the bunch’ and finished up with a 4kmTeam Time Trial

Here are the photos of Sally, Kylie and Durani in the Team Time Trial. They were demonstrating to the rest of us how to work effectively as a team

Thanks to coach Jess and the support team at track

I'm pretty sure you mean seven :)

Everybody had 3 turns including Lisa. It was only Lisa's second time on a track bike but she was very comfortable riding up the top of the track so joined in.
4km pursuit
Sally/Darani/Kylie 7.51
Jacqui/Dayna/Anna 7.04
Anna turned up late with the very good excuse that she had just done a 160km ride. She was pretty tired but had to come down and test out her new track bike!! Yay-the force is strong in this one.

This week's special mention goes to Jessica. Thanks for giving up your time and energy to make Saturday track happen.

Hi All,
Sad news for the remainder of November, but family holidays are on for us!
Whilst we are off holidaying in the sun, these are the events which you should enter today. Don't forget that you get racing experience by getting racing experience, so get involved! If you haven't upgraded your licence yet, I highly recommend it. Also club bikes are available for borrowing to races, so really there's no excuse :)
1. Clarence St Cup - November 16. It's at Dunc Grey Velodrome and it will be a great/ thrilling start for some track fun, especially for those who haven't raced there yet.
2. Open Carnival - November 23. Also at Dunc Grey being held by Cycling NSW. There will be state titles in the middle so you ill also get to see some fast racing and have some fun yourselves.
3. DHBC Juniors Carnival - November 30th. If you aren't a junior, make yourselves useful and help out (Speak to Kylie our volunteer coordinator) and also come and cheer the juniors on!

I will be back in December for the 7th and the 21st if you are keen to have some more Saturday track sessions. Let me know if you're available and I can organise it from there.

***Saturday 14th is the Illawarra Track Open. I also recommend that you try out this velodrome and enter the event. It's an outdoor rather flat like track, certainly not like Tempe's banking. It's a new challenge riding on all the different tracks and very fun, I highly recommend this event. I will see if I am available to come as your cheer squad :)

Just confirming that there is no further track for the remainder of the year UNLESS you are keen to have training on December 7 and 21. I am available and keen if people are still in Sydney.

Best wishes and keep up-to-date on this thread. I will let you know when normal training will resume in the new year.

Is it possible for me to go for Wednesday night session? I'm scared the boys will be so fast that i just become a hindrance on the track :/

You'd be more than welcome to go to the Wednesday night track session. Just try and ensure you are there and ready to go by 630 so the boys organising the session, like Alex and Christian, know who is there on the night and can plan accordingly.

Hi Anna,

Please do attend training on Wednesday nights. You will enjoy it. Just make sure you look around if you change out of your line as there's more people on the track at any one time. You will enjoy the pace :)

Have fun

Hi all,

I went to the wednesday night track yesterday.
Really enjoyed the experience, and i do agree that the boys love dropping the girls :P
The pace is faster than the saturday session, and Jess, you were spot on! I enjoyed the pace very much!
I'll definitely come on wednesday night session whenever i can make it.

Thanks for all the guidance and teaching on the saturday women's track! without it, I would not even able to do track cycling and discover the joy of it without Jess, Dayna, Jacqui, Sally, Lizanne, and everyone else on the saturday session!

Do note that the adult session only starts at 7 pm instead of 6.30.

See you guys on the next saturday session!

Hi Jessica

Great to hear you are having a holiday. Enjoy.

The Wallace 4 will be at the track on Saturday the 7th and 21st of December. Thank you for giving up your time to train us.

Mia and Alison have enjoyed a couple of Saturday afternoons at Dunc Gray, Mia even came home with some cash. Tess is still not allowed to sprint so has missed out, hopefully she will be back into racing some time soon.

Hi All,

Good to hear everyone is having a good start to the racing season. I love getting everyone's SMS about race participation/ successes/ licence upgrades and of course missing Saturday track sessions.
I will ask Alex to book the track for us for the 7th and the 21st of December and I have some training plans in mind to prepare us for the Christmas carnivals etc. Make sure you enter them. Tempe especially but all of them if you are available. It's great experience racing on Sydney's various and differing velodromes.
Given the weather has been a bit unpredictable, please note that training will be on regardless of if it's raining.

Looking forward to catching up with you all then.

Saturday 21/12 will be the last Women's Track training for the year. 2-4pm.

Afterwards we are going to celebrate with a bbq at our place in Undercliffe, walking distance from the track. Bring the family, ours will be there.

Come even if you cannot ride that day.

Please come, bring something to share - nibbles/salad/desert.

PM me if you can come and I will send you the address.

Jenny, Alison, Tess & Mia with Bob and Angela

Hi all,
The xmas track carnival entry closes today.
I was thinking of entering day 2 (Tempe) and day 5 or day 1 (Dunc gray).
Anyone else in?
