Jinjie Gong: the pre-Teschner days

Crash with Clara Sanchez of France, '07 LA World Cup. Ouch mama!
I have to say that Jinjie Gong shown in the photo looked very much like Chinese No 1, Shuang Guo. Guess everyone all looks similar just prior to hitting the deck.

I could tell that, Jinjie is more cute. On a serious note, its been proven in countless experimental psychology studies that people have far better own-race face recognition vs cross-race face recognition. ... even in studies on babies.

Here is a photo of Shuang Guo (middle) and Jinjie Gong (left) side by side. At least this photo's Shuang Guo matches with other reference photos on the net. I would have thought that the fallen rider was Shuang Guo.

Image

But yet again, Cyclingnews' report seemed to show that Shuang Guo didn't race against Clara Sanchez in that meet. Another Chinese women rider Lulu Zheng did.

I am totally confused... :?

And UCI's official site doesn't have 2007 data on their web site.

Gold, Simon, gold.

Please also note that I have removed the contentious photograph of the falling rider in my previous post. There were three reasons for this:
1. This is a Jinjie Gong appreciation page, and therefore a place to admire Jinjie alone.
2. The photo wasn't very flattering, and doesn't depict Jinjie's greatness, style and mastery of the track.
3. Jinjie is way hotter than Shuang Guo.

Boys...

If you google Jinjie Gong DHBC are in the top 10 results of the search engine.

I think we might need facebook fan page now.

You guys did note that Jinjie won Silver in the 500m TT and Bronze in the Kirien (Manchester World Cup) .

She will be riding in Melb World Cup and there is a chance CNSW will be trying to lure her to ride Clarence ST Cup.

With Jinjie's good results in Melb round of UCI Track World Cup
• 2nd fastest 200m qualifier
• Silver in 500m TT
• 4th in Kieirin
She is now the World #1 ranked rider in the 500 TT and Kierin.

For this she entitled to wear the white jersey as UCI World Cup Leader.

Stay tuned to a potential special announcement about Jinjie and DHBC.

OK here it is!

I proposed to CNSW that they bring Jinjie to the Clarence St Cup, However they had blown all their budget on the VIS team coming up.

I now propose that DHBC sponsor Jinjie to ride both the Clarence St and the Alex Simmons Benefit night.

How does it work?
We get the first 12 DHBC forum members to respond to this post to pledge $25.
What do you get for your $25?
• A ticket to the Clarence St Cup. .......value $15
• A personally Signed photo of Jinjie...........value priceless.
• A DHBC group photo with Jinjie and coach Sean Eadie............value really priceless
• Sean Eadie (2002 world sprint champion) to sit with DHBC group for one race of the event......value insightful.
• Infield access post event to have group photo.............Value not as much as the photo.
• Knowing that DHBC was involved in bringing Jinjie back to the DGV..........Value Truly priceless

Where does the money go?
A small percentage goes to the ticket office however the majority goes to Jinjie to cover airfares from Melbourne.

What do you need to do?
Just pledge on this thread how many shares you want
Turn up on the 29th with you money where the 12+ tickets will be issued
Group photos and personally signed photos will be provided post event.

Who’s in?

I'm probably in for $25, but can someone please post some details of the racing schedule. (e.g. what time I need to be at the track, and what time I can expect to leave.) I need to organise my leave pass and the boss will want this info.

After last night I expect the cult of Jinjie to grow and grow - it was so sweet to see Huw getting his piccy taken with the young Chinese star and her not understanding a word of what was going on around her! I expect to see that piccy up here soon along with the group photos.

Jinjie's results up to the Melbourne World Cup

I have a spare 3 tickets that I will give to DHBC, will try and find Simon's Dad before start time.

Weiyun, may require your linguistic services tonight. We had some trouble explaining the Miss'N'Out to Jinjie last night.

Sean informed me last night that due to uncontrollable circumstances he is unable to attend tonight and he asked to pass on his apologies. Of course Jinjie is still racing

On another note how awesomely cool was the DHBC cheer squad last night. it really was good to see.

Any chance I can take an extra ticket? My wife may be able to join me and my son tonight.

Will be available to translate, and gladly too. See you there.

Now that Huw's back, we can finally revive this thread

Jinjie and her Chinese teammates should be peaking at the moment as the 11th National Games has just finished, a career deciding time for all the Chinese athletes as the results directly affect their selection in the national team. In the 500m TT, where Jinjie and her teammate Guo were expected to take the first gold and silver of the games with widespread media coverage. But unfortunately at the end, Guo managed 3rd and Gong 5th. In the sprints, Guo took gold and Jinjie took 4th. There are some serious competitions at home and abroad.

In honour of Jinjie getting a Silver at the Olympics (they really deserved Gold don't you think?) and a new world record this is a BUMP for this thread. DHBC always knew she was destined for greatness ... although some comments from some of the lads may be a bit embarrassing in hindsight

Gong Jinjie and Guo Shuang's relegation in the team sprint final has been elevated. A formal application has been made to the UCI, seeking clarification on the relegation ruling. To date, chief commissaire has not given a clear explanation on the basis of his ruling. Various media reports suggested that it was because of Guo Shuang hitting the blue lane while others talked about error on the white change-over line. However, there are also comments that the rules on these weren't clear. Commissaire has so far only stayed mute and issued a 200 pounds fine for attending to the commissaire area and querying the ruling.

This London Olympics has not been short of controversies.

I thought it was for the changeover but wow, it was marginal. Especially compared to the brits.

Apparently there's no confirmation. All we know is that there's something related to the changeover but the commissaire has not indicated which exact clause/s the competitors broke. The commissaires are not talking either.
