Hey guys the team timetrial is on next month:

http://www.nsw.cycling.org.au/cy_nsw/ra ... /09133.htm

It wouldn't be a bad chance to get some team pursuit training in. There will be ample opportunity to get our turns sorted as it's 80kms. Bit long for my liking but if you boys are keen???, I'll take one for the team & ride....

I should probably partake in this crazy activity. At least it won't be as hot as last time we did it. Just have to check my exam timetable. Eugen is Masters, the Elite team may need to poach him, depending on interest from people.

And aero wheels, and a pointy helmet, and cowhorn bars, bar-end shifters, and those razor brake levers... And a new bike perhaps?

Just remember, it's your last chance to use the aero handlebars, cranks, etc. that the UCI will be cracking down on from July 1st. (can't be bothered searching for where i read this)

Is this UCI Rule 1.3.024 that you are referring to here, or something else?

If it's the 3:1 ratio on bars & seatposts, as well as frames, I think it's safe that no-one in the club is using such cutting edge components on their bikes.

(Possible exception, Shrub Face's new track bike - Wow!)

hey i know im not an obvious choice, but ive been training alot of stuff lately that sorta suits this sorta thing. But yeah, i realise that every one else has done alot of all the road races, which probably puts me behind them on the list (assuming james, alex, mat walman, simon? christian? Alex R.

But yeah, i reckon im getting better at this sorta stuff, and at the moment this is more similar to the sort of race im getting better at, even if its not what i want to aim for later on in it all.

But yeah :D

I've been giving this a bit of thought and I think I might be interested. I've got absolutely no idea how I'd go and I think finding out might be...well not exactly fun but definately instructive. I'm about to do a Wiggle order and I might chuck in some aero shoe covers to prove to myself exactly how serious I am about this.

Well if you are interested Mat then I propose a team of myself, Simon, Tim and you. According to the cycling nsw site, clubs are more than welcome to enter multiple teams in each category, so if there is enough interest then a second or even third team can be entered.

So far we have two sets of aero bars, Simon owns a set and im borrowing a pair from Nathan. So we need to source two more pairs and we also need to organise some times for training, planing and the like.

Elite team is entered.

so far for team it looks like:

Simon L
Tim L
Alex C
Matt W or James F

If more are interested we can have a masters team as well which would probably be the best option or another elite team...

I'm interested if there were to be a 'B' elite team. Or if not, just keep me in mind if someone needs to pull out / you need a reserve.

I'm happy for Matt to take the spot. I've got an exam on the monday after this, so i should probably be studying or something. I can probably lend someone my aerobars as well, if needed.

If someone has to pull out, i could probably still fill in.

I have a set of aero bars that someone is welcome to borrow. Off the top of my head though, they don't fit on oversize bars. They aren't the best, but they do the job.

OK i dont know if im in the team or not, and am concerned slightly about what sort of hills are involved in this. Either way though, i think alot of this is about team training, and it looks like this thing isnt far away?! is it on the 14th?! the day after our omnium?!

After watching how randwick train, i reckon two good starting options are, that we train waterfall in formation, and that we do a day a week or some thing like that in centenial. Is that a posibility for every one?
I reckon if we want to do well at all we need to be doing this.

(sorry if im sounding too much like i want to take over or what ever, but i want our team/s to do our best, and reckon training is a good way of trying to acheive this.)

Do we want the novelty of having a team car following us with spares? My dad lives on the central coast near the course and would love that job. Also he is actually a cyclist, so in the event of a wheel change he knows what to do. Plus i want to put a flashing light on his car.

I have a dream
It involves the long weekend, gosford and riding. I need to talk to simon about it first, who is free and how much, on the long weekend, of our time trial team? (i think this is matt, simon, alex and james)(i reckon we should have a 5 or 6 person line up, especially as there are hills in this course, and im worried about utilising our riders, which may not happen with me in the line up)

So yeah, talk to me people, probably off here i think, i dont know if its easier on this or off the net, but yeah, my dream may be restricted to the sunday and monday of the weekend.

There's 2 vet categories;
- min 150 years combined age of 3 youngest riders
- normal vets

I think it would be hard for us to get into 150+

- Christian

Just need our #1 rider Eugene to confirm and we'll be on fire.

Hi

If only it were that simple. There are sections (at least maybe 2, if I remember correctly) where you will be going at or under 15kph.

Now I'm glad I didn't put my hand up for this one!

I've done timetrials up at Calga with ATTA. There will be hills, but I doubt they will be ugly ones. The roads all roll up and down. I'd say the Elite Men will be going over some of the big climbs along the Old Pacific Hwy, but the hills won't be so vicious for Masters. Suspect you will be getting out of the saddle for a few climbs. You have to on those roads.

So, I've got myself some aero-bars as of today. It's going to take me a bit of time to get them set up but at the moment I'm planning on taking them on a turn around Centennial Park during Saturday Slowies. There'll probably be a bit of on-the-run fiddling with position to be done but if anyone wants to practise a bit of a paceline I hope to get in a solid 30 mins or so at TT pace during the session.

Well as far as i know, Simon, Tim, Christian and maybe some other will be riding up to calga on sunday morning, where we will be doing some laps of the time trial course before riding back to sydney. Ill already be on the central coast on the sunday morning, so ill simply meet the bunch at the course.

More details as they come to hand...

Are we riding up, or taking the train and riding back? I guess this depends on how many laps we want to do of the 20km circuit and how we all feel after Saturdays ride.

we have to work out what the deal with this race allready on is, we might be better off catching a train up, putting our two teams into the race, which i think you can do in teams, then riding back?

some one needs to find out what the deal with the race allready on is.

your post has left me completely confused Tim..... Are you saying that there is another race on this coming sunday that we are going to disturb by training on the course? or are you just refering to actually getting to the time trial in 2 sundays time>

That's just annoying that there is a time trial already on at the course. Why did they put it on a long weekend. I also think that this is an individual time trial. I don't think they will be closing the road so we should still be able to ride the course. There isn't a train station near Calga, so you either have to ride from Gosford station or ride from Marrickville. I'm all for a not so early start for this one.

Another strange point is that CNSW lists the course as 20km when the map refers to the 40km course.

Now some one just has to choose a time to meet.... According to google its about 75km from marrickville to the meeting spot.
I've got to be honest and say that I can think of better ways to spend my Sunday than making a 150 kms round trip with aero-bars on just to take a look at the course. I was hoping for a train in one direction. Colour me doubtful for this at this stage.

What's the team makeup at present? How are we going to decide who's in and who's out? If it's first come first served then I'm out.
Matt

Thanks Alex,

Interesting that some teams have more than 4 riders, perhaps they are reserves.

Saw lots of teams training in CP this week, including a small portion of the Dulwich Hill entrants on Wednesday.

Hoping for your sake it isn't as cold and windy on Sunday as it has been this week.

Does anyone want to ride on the vet team this Sunday. I may not be able to make it, I'll know more tomorrow, waiting to see if the holes in my back are healed enough to race. They cut deeper to remove the chuck then I was expecting them to.

My back is a lot better today, looks like I'm back in. Just going to use lots of tape so I don't pull any stitches out.

Elite team lost matt after 20km anddid a time of about 2:27 we would have been a minute or two better
If we hadn't had to stop to grab my transponder.
We came tenth, beat one team that finished, 5 or 6 teams didn't finish.
Vet team did 1:14 and lost eugene early.

I have to say that flatting today was pretty gutting, particularly to have it happen so early on. The air turned blue for a moment there. Well done to Tim, Simon and Alex for holding it together and pushing hard till the end.

Well done guys, good to hear you finished it. Bad luck to Matt for his puncture. I did tell you to aim for the top ten, so it's good to here you got there. Hopefully we'll be able to give this a better crack next year.

What happened to Eugen? Puncture?

I've got to say we all felt the blow and I can still kind of feel it now, I remember Alex commented about the instant strength lost in one small moment and my head was questioning what to do in confusion for a few km's before we settled down into a rhythm again. But in some respects it also meant that everybody knew they would have too finish, so it was kind settling at the same time.

All round though I really enjoyed the day out. I think we mainly lost the most time on the hills. We were too cautious and probably should have attacked them a bit more. On the flats and down hills we were absolutely flying, I don't think we really lost much time there at all. It was a very solid day out and look forward to doing it all again! The next big one is really the State team pursuit and team sprint. Hopefully we can get the same team together and improve on our technique. Turns are definitely one of the most crucial parts of the race.

It was an interesting experience for the Masters team. After loosing a rider early on, the 3 of us pressed on. None of us had done a time trail of any form at all.

I feel the 3 of us worked well together. Alex R and Christian may have a different view, but I feel that we went uphill reasonably good, though I was a tad slower than Alex and Christian. Where we could improve the most was to go downhill much quicker and we could of been a little quicker on the flat.

I was expecting a big uphill on the way back, based on what we saw on the way out, but it didn't feel like that on the way back.

Next year we would know the circuit and would attack it more aggressively.

Well we didn't come last, 34th out of 37 teams. We can definitely improve on this result. We did it in 1.12, that's around 35.8km/h for the 43kms.

As opposed to the others masters teams we did no training for this. I've already started to think of riders for next year so we place better.

Better late than never, here are some photos of the day. Bewared I was to lazy to resize the images, so dial up users beware.

The team talking about how our lack of EPO use would affect our time.

And we are off...

Image

As will all important race starts, i missed my pedal..

Image

This picture was taken just after the turn around, at the begining of the second lap. You would never guess that I was actually in a team time trial, as i sprinted away from my team mates.

Image

As some of you may have noticed, this is infact a very small resolution photo. This is because my mother who was photographing the day, accidently set the camera to movie mode when we finished and took a very low res shot of us before recording a short film of my father legs, and mats feet. Good job mum.
