Hey guys it's gtting to that time of the year again!!! Time for some imperial century fixie riding!!!!!

Check out Huw's report from 2007!!!

http://www.dhbc.org.au/forum/viewtopic. ... ight=fixie

This year:

When: early November TBC
Where: Bundanoon to Tempe Velordome
What kind of bike?: Fixed gear only
Why: Because once every year we as a club must commit to doing something really stupid & destroy our backsides in the ultimate pilgrimage to the mecca of Sydney Cycling; Tempe Velodrome
Post meal & drinks: To the German club afterwards!!!!!
Plan: We normally train it down on Saturday avo, stay at the pub over night and ride home Sunday morning.

Ripper Doyle... I love this ride. My favourite part is the afternoon ride from Mossvale to Bundanoon.

Riding 77.1" up from the 68.3" I was on last year hopefully I will be able to make it all the way this time as I shouldn't be spinning such a high cadence

Would the fixie riders be willing to be met by a guard of honour comprising non fixie-owning members (a.k.a wimps) out Liverpool way for some encouragement over the last 20-30kms?
Could be a fun ride for the wimps and we can see what real riders are made of!

What'a ya mean wimps? I take umbridge at that remark - simply because I don't want to ride a fixie doesn't mean I'm a wimp - it just means that fixie's don't interest me, especially given the almost god like devotion to them by some members of the cycling community. I mean it seems that if you don't have one you are just not cool enough for the inner west-city-east cycling elite ....

These days, it takes considerable mental fortitude for a self-proclaimed "serious cyclist" to stay away from that fixie thing, and overload your garage/lounge with bikes than you have time for. So if you can hold out on the sheep mentality, then yes, you are one tough dude. 8)

BTW - I didn't mean to diss those in the club who ride fixies - I'm sure they are great training for track. It's just that as a non-racer, purely recreational cyclist I'm over all this posturing on the web and the road. I'm sure it would be a great weekend though - enjoy.

May I suggest the 17th would be better as the 1st of Nov is the gong ride which my wife took the liberty of entering me in already.

Not sure if anyone else is doing the gong ride.

lol just read your next post, and man my fave recreational cycling is on the fixie!! nothing to do with training!! try riding one on the road and you will see what i mean, i have no idea why i like it so much?!

I'd prefer the 31st. The 17th is only a week after the Scott 24hr. I'm not sure my body could take two consecutive weekends of punishment.

Ok...I've tentatively booked 6 ensuite rooms (2-3 people per room @$80 each incl. breakfast) for the 31st of October. There are a few more rooms available so if we're quick I can snatch those up as well

It's up to Simon, but I guess the first 12 or so people who confirm on the forum, get the rooms.

I was late getting in last year, but found a great motel 100m away. This is an excellent alternative for those who miss out (and we managed to sneak into the pub for breakfast anyway :D )

So far it looks like we have,

Myself - confirmed
Kevin - confirmed
Simon
Jessica
Lindsay
Tim
Alex
James
Matt
Christian
Victoria
Mike
Terry
Mark L

Which means we're pretty much full, depending on who confirms (maybe quote my message and write confirmed next to your name?).

Oh and apparently the rest of the hotel has been booked out by the Sutherland Cycle Club.

The ride is on Sunday. We're staying in the hotel the night of the 31st which is Saturday. So we'll need to catch the train on Saturday.

Sorry for the lateness of my confirm, I'm just back from a couple of days in the snow. As I skier I make an excellent cyclist.

On the bike front Jim Bundy's made me a fork and it's being chromed as I type. However I'm in need of a nice old set of track cranks if anyone knows of a source.

Hi
If there's still a chance for extra accomodation and not too late could I add my name to the list of confirmed, I too have become a fixie convert of late! Have been away and just realised it's all organised. If I'm too late well... I'll just have to miss out :(
If it is okay can someone add me to the list, I'm technologically challenged and can't seem to do it.
Thanks
Michele

The Bundanoon Motel http://www.bundanoonmotel.com.au/ is where I stayed last year. It's a 100m walk around the corner (and you can still sneak back into the pub for breakfast).

I've booked a room here again me Kevin and Myself to free up a bit of room at the pub. So at this stage there's still 1 bed available.

I currently do not have a rideable fixie, but I have decided to do this ride. Has anyone got half a room available, or some floor space? If not, should I just call up the Bundanoon hotel meself and book another room?

Toff, I've put you in as taking the last bed at the pub.

It looks like we're full up again. Anyone else wanting to come along will need to book their own accommodation at the Bundanoon Motel http://www.bundanoonmotel.com.au/

And I think that Mike is confusing Newton with Galileo.

Newton came up with the three laws of motion

1) Any object will remain in motion unless acted upon by an external unbalanced force.
2) F=ma
3) For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction

It was Galileo that proved that gravity acts upon all objects equally regardless of their weight. His proof that two objects of different masses will fall equally is dependant upon them being a vacuum. Which is why it doesn't apply when it comes to cyclists going down a hill.

There was discussion about it a while ago on the forum.

James

Galileo was right. He proved it. So it would be silly to announce that Galileo was wrong.

Newton, on the other hand was brilliant, He invented calculus, and was Chancellor of the Exchequer, but he was also a bit of a fruitcake. He had an unhealthy superstitious fascination with the number 7. That's why he proclaimed that there are 7 colours in the rainbow. We are still taught that there are 7 colours in the rainbow, but it's fiction. To be pedantic, there are an infinite number of colours in the rainbow. To be practical, there are 6 identifyable colours. Go on... find indigo in the rainbow... Newton was wrong...

Nothing to do with cycling, but interesting nonetheless...

Some may recall my previous post on Bowral Velodrome.

I'd like to suggest that we do a lap of this velodrome at the start of the ride, and finish with a lap of Tempe Velodrome...

Location of Bundanoon Velodrome is here.

Eridge Park, on Eridge Park Road, East Bowral. Roughly 18 km from Bundanoon in the direction we are heading.

I think this is a good idea - is it actually part of our plan now or has it not been determined?

This is the route i'm thinking of riding to get to Bundanoon http://www.mapmyride.com/route/au/sydne ... 8929364488
Just in case there's anyone crazy enough to join me.
I wanted to avoid the Hume Hwy as much as possible (only saves 20km), and the other alternative would have been Macquarie Pass.

Which train are people planning to catch? seems to be options for arriving in Moss Vale at 1:24pm, 3:24pm, and 5:24pm. My plan is to meet the train in Moss Vale and ride the remaining distance with company (hopefully i will have convinced someone to take a bag on the train for me....)

I think the plan was to split the group so we take two trains (1:24 and 3:24). This way we avoid all the troubles we had last year getting everybody and their bikes on the train.
We just need to make sure there's someone who knows the way to Bundanoon on both trains. I know Lindsay was keen to take the earlier option.

James, you'll need to rethink that route, its only 161.63k, you need to get it up to 162.5k to qualify for a double century weekend.

I'd say that we will arrive on the 5:24pm train

100miles = 160.9344km, so i think i'm fine, not that it was my aim.

I know the way to Bundanoon, so if i met the 3:24pm group i could lead the way.

How many stops are we likely to make? Don't know if I should be trying to attach an extra bottle cage somewhere or just carrying a a larger bidon...

Last year we stopped in Bowral and Picton, plus a few short stops to refill bidons.

If you're doing Mars Bars, you can bring some along for me too!! :D

I won't be around on the 1st of November, as I will be on the Gong Ride. If anyone is planning on doing the ride on the 1st. I would recommend an earlier depart than 6am. That way you can hopefully beat the Gong Ride crowd.

I just got a call today from the Bundanoon Hotel. They want us to organise ourselves into rooms and let them know the names of everybody in the room (I did ask if we could just organise it on the day, but they seemed pretty adamant about putting names to rooms before we arrive). Each room has a double and two single beds so we need to make groups of 3.

If you could add your FULL names to a room, I'll send them an email with the info early next week.

If no one is really too fussed, just ignore this post, and I'll make up a list myself.

Also, one of the "couples" will have to share a bed as we are one short.

Have we got any update on Huw?

Room 1:
1.
2.
3.

Room 2:

Room 3:

Room 4:

3.

Room 5:

2.
3.

Room 6:

Which rooms have double/queen beds and which rooms have separate beds?

Need a 14t side flange, the shop wanted to charge me $55, I thought that was a bit steep

That means that there are TWO single beds in each room Mike, and one double. So one person per bed...

I saw one of the logos and nearly felt that it was a small world. But from looking through my work's address book, I don't think you work for Dimension Data.

I don't work for DiData, but your corporate comms person, Martin Aungle, is a founding member of geeks on bikes. I'm an IT journo, so Martin and I bump into each other quite a lot.

Ok, not long now.

I know Lindsay was pretty keen to make sure we split up the groups heading out to Bundanoon on Saturday to avoid the train hassles we had last year.

I've put up 3 options for everyone below. I don't think we need to put everyone into a group on the forum (plus I don't want to get a reputation as a list nazi  ). Hopefully the groups will be quite even if we just leave it up to people individually (maybe if people just declare their intentions, we can get an idea of numbers).

Option 1 : Lindsay's Group

Airport And East Hills Line train (CityRail)
Dep: 10:53am Central Station Platform 23
Arr: 11:52am Campbelltown Station Platform 3

Southern Highlands Line train (CityRail)
Dep: 12:04pm Campbelltown Station Platform 4
Arr: 1:24pm Moss Vale Station Platform 2

Option 2 : John and James' Group

Airport And East Hills Line train (CityRail)
Dep: 12:53pm Central Station Platform 23
Arr: 1:52pm Campbelltown Station Platform 3

Southern Highlands Line train (CityRail)
Dep: 2:04pm Campbelltown Station Platform 4
Arr: 3:24pm Moss Vale Station Platform 2

Option 3 : Mike Clement's Group

Airport And East Hills Line train (CityRail)
Dep: 2:53pm Central Station Platform 23
Arr: 3:52pm Campbelltown Station Platform 3

Take the Southern Highlands Line train (CityRail)
Dep: 4:04pm Campbelltown Station Platform 4
Arr: 5:24pm Moss Vale Station Platform 2

P.S. Does anyone know Nathan's surname???
