Already planning on doing Beaumont Rd on Monday. Hoping there's a D grade...

Was going to do a mountain bike race on Sunday but we've pulled out. Not sure about the West head road race... It sound hilly.

Do you have to pay entry into the park for west head, or do you park at the bottom of the hill and ride in? Then the only decision is what grade I should ride. I'm thnking of doing West head and Beaumont Rd this weekend.

The entrance gate for the West Head park is a bit away from the turn off from McCarrs Creek Rd, so you can park at the bottom. You can also park up in Terry Hills, it is only a few k's away.

Not sure I'm going now, my legs are feeling a bit fried from the mountain bike ride today. I don't want to enter a race just to get dropped. May be best to save my legs for Monday morning and just do waterfall tomorrow.

Go for C grade Orphic. Jo and I did E at Beaumont a while back and there ended up being only 4 of us so we had to tag onto the back of C, but weren't actually allowed to get amongst them. It was ridiculous! With a serious sling-shot every few kms we had no hope.

And don't be fooled if there are 16 people on the sign on list. it's all the juniors!

if that happens, normally you just time trial as the three of you, and take oetwop three in the sprint. Its illegal to jump on :S (if your dropped from what ever grade you can sit on once out of it i think, though its not legal either)

Didn't end up going. I caught a cold and decided to preserve myself rather than kill myself.

I rode c grade with the vets at Penrith, 80 min + 1 lap, about 40 in the bunch.
The course was a loop of about 4 km around the rowing course, with several pinch-points where the course narrowed, and plenty of hard metal or concrete things to hit.
Two long straights meant no-one was ever going to break away.
There were two crashes in the bunch with riders off to hospital.
The dangerous course made for a very grumpy race. I just rolled in with bunch, happy to be in one piece.

It might be OK for higher grades with more skilful riders, but I'd not like to race this course again.

I suppose i best write a race report for sunday.

Had 5 dhbc riders out at West head, myself in A grade, Simon, John, and Christian in B and another rider whos name has escaped me for a moment in either C or D.
Was a very cold morning, with only about 15 A grade riders in attendence. Pace was relatively slow (for A grade), with intermittent attacks. Besides wanting to vomit up my breakfast I was feeling pretty good and chased down a number of the attacks. Didnt really bother to contest the sprint in the end and rolled through in about 7th. In hindsight I wish I had tried a little hard in the sprint, or possible initated my own attack before the finish. Overall a good day out on the bike.
